Strategy Trade and List Management thread 4 (Be sure to huddle around your transitor radio at 11 am Edition)

Is the Stringer situation beyond repair?

  • The club clearly want him out the door.

  • This was just a shot across Jakes bow as a means of motivating him.

  • The club is clearly a rabble. Sack Macca!

  • This is just the first play in massive trade that we are not yet privy to.

  • This is a game of blink and Jake and Conners just blinked.

  • Its time to move on a negotiate the best deal we can.

  • I felt sad for Jake on that stage today.

  • We've warned you about creating polls Norm!

  • The Jack 'Armageddon option' Watts option

I never posted that. Sounds like a good deal.

Once again you cover a need (a ruck and a big defender). Tarrant has been a close second to Rance over the last two years. Wood plays loose,Morris takes the third tall, Adams the other KPF.

North try and repair Stringers hamstrings and getting him back on track. Plus a decent pick in a poor draft.

The last thing you want is an unhappy player causing unrest in the locker room.

Go dogs! Woof!
Someone ban this joker please.

OK, you need some time off this board I reckon, you're getting ridiculous.

I expect we would offer a 2018 1st and 2017 2nd at a minimum. If its picks better than that you want we will find them ourselves or via a 3rd club for you.

Players are more difficult as we have a limited number who may want to leave.

Danger Joel Hawkins Duncan and Taylor are untouchable.
Tuohy Henderson Smith Scott Selwood and Stewart just got here and wont want to go.
Guthrie and Blicavs have been joined at the hip since primary school.
Menegola Cockatoo Parfitt Parsons have all re-signed in last few weeks and Bews is about to.
If you exclude the 0 gamers with no trade value i can really only see the following: (other than menzel and motlop who are free agents) Stanley Murdoch Thurlow Horlin Smith Lang and Ruggles as likely to be available and enticeable by offers from other clubs.
But stranger things have happened with player movement.
No offence, but we shouldn't be making you stronger as one of our competitors. I would rather we trade with Carlton or Norf or even St Kilda.

Not a bad offer in principal, the problem is that your first pick in 2018 will probably be between 15 & 18 which packaged in with your 2nd rounder this year would be insufficient to get it done. If we were dealing with Carlton or North I would say yes to this proposal.

I agree that the players you would likely offer up are not what we need so unless a 3rd club could get involved & provide earlier picks to satisfy us, it won't be happening.

I'm going off what I've heard of the 2018 draft class, it's apparently pretty special. This gets said most years though so don't take it as gospel.

Who says we use that 2018 pick? If it's considered valuable, we might package it up with something and grab a now player anyway. Just want the most value for Jake. We'll get it too. If we dont, then its bye bye for Macca.

What mature A graders are there out and about that are realistically gettable? That is the million dollar question my man.
Thanks Dale. Yes, the conundrum does seem to be " who is available". Trade week normally throws up a few surprises. If something comes up, I want us to have the chips to be in the game. I agree 2018 picks can be traded, but so can this years. If we had a couple of 1sts, we can see what trade week offers, if nothing exciting, hit the draft. I guess that strategy may lessen 2018 opportunity. I'll trust in Dal to weigh up the options.

Stevo's talk of Geelong being the front runner confuses me. If the idea of a potential trade is only very new (ie in the past week), surely there hasn't been time for all options to be assessed, contact to be made, talks to be held etc. It all seems very premature with Geelong in the lead-up to a final and 5 weeks until trade period. Unless they've been in his ear for some time already.

I assume North could cover all of Goldsteins contract for you. That way you could restructure bonts so that it's less to pay in the future.

Maybe 21 with Goldstein and North get 26.
Norf doesn't have a single player of Stringer's value. That's the truth, now go troll some other board.

Dale will probably give you a better answer but my opinion is we aren't so much in the "now" window. Last year was something special, but look at our age profile. Look at our performance this year. Even if our window is open we're not in a position where it's about to close any time soon. We can make longer term, higher payoff decisions instead of rushing things and getting less to show for it. Next years draft looks very strong and full of talls. Whoever goes pick 1 this year will would struggle to go top ten next year. A top five pick this year is pretty uninspiring whereas we could get someone really special next year. I'm happy to wait. And there's also the chance a North or Carlton gives us theirs and the get the spoon. As for getting an established player now, I'd be all for it if there was someone available. I really can't see who it would be.
I get your point. Longer term strategy vs immediate benefit. I probably think we are closer to being able to win it again than some folks. I guess it's all subjective.

I am starting to think we are grossly undervaluing Stringer in just asking for a Top 5 pick.

A similar record player in Beams fetched far more. Pies got P5,25 and Crisp. And Beams wasn't going anywhere but Brisbane.

That is the bar for me.

I hope JMac has taken note. Zero confidence in him though.
So much this. I can't believe what I'm reading, fair enough from nuffy oppo supporters but even the trades our own are endorsing.

He was drafted at pick 5 after a broken leg was always gonna take longer, his value has certainly increased since then, he's contracted and about to hit his peak. If you get Stringer from pick 1 in the draft you take it and run.

Top 5 pick and a good young player bare minimum. Norf want to deal? Pick 4 + Wood. Take it or leave it.

Like you said though Jmac has given us absolutely no reason to believe he is capable of getting this done.

Reading fronk's posts and speaking to my
Sources - I agree ess are frontrunners. Whether ess can
Satisfy the dogs is another story.
I'd be very surprised if any player manager advised a big client to nominate EFC.

Out of interest when was the last time a big fish nominated EFC to be traded to?

Was it Shotgun Williams?

Why do so few top line players nominate EFC to be traded to do you think?

Doesn't Goldstein have as many or more personal issues than Jake, but we don't want "an unhappy player causing unrest in the locker room"
Goldy is a light of yesterday, and shouldn't be part of any discussions.

Anyway we're keeping Jake ;)

12 and McKenna

That's what we should be asking for and receiving.

Up to the bombers
I'd be wanting their first next year as well. McKenna is a Crisp type fringe player. And P12 is nowhere near enough.

Our years of being brutalised by JMacs shocking trade negotiations have caused us to set our sights far too low.

Guys like Aish get two picks in the twenties. Aish.
