Strategy Trade and List Management thread 4 (Be sure to huddle around your transitor radio at 11 am Edition)

Is the Stringer situation beyond repair?

  • The club clearly want him out the door.

  • This was just a shot across Jakes bow as a means of motivating him.

  • The club is clearly a rabble. Sack Macca!

  • This is just the first play in massive trade that we are not yet privy to.

  • This is a game of blink and Jake and Conners just blinked.

  • Its time to move on a negotiate the best deal we can.

  • I felt sad for Jake on that stage today.

  • We've warned you about creating polls Norm!

  • The Jack 'Armageddon option' Watts option

Take the Sir Alex Ferguson approach don't strengthen your most likely rivals.

Send him to North or Carlton rather than deal with Geelong and Essendon whilst you have him under contract in 2018.

But still a fan of letting things cool down and trying to get him happy again whilst he is contracted.
Agree with that sentiment on trading to direct rivals, but Essendon have a lot of currency in both picks and playing list, they'd be in my top 3 clubs to send him to if he wants out.

North have a crap list, no one wants to play for them, have a cooked ruckman and no A grade players. Definate cellar dwellers for years to come.

Take advantage of their desperation.

Norths 2018 1st round pick
for
Stringer + 9

Grab a top 2 A grade talent in a super draft!

Some gross overestimation of his value going on ITT

2 late firsts, top 5 picks and Mitch Duncan not being worth half of his value? Ludicrous, and made even more so by the fact that you guys have acknowledged he and the club both want him gone.

Open market value at the moment would probably be a pick in the late teens/early twenties.
F@cking lol

Take out our pick 9 and add a good solid young player, Mason Wood maybe, and that looks a lot closer to the mark.

Imagine the midfield we have next year with Macrae, Bontempelli, Wallis, McLean, Dale, Dahlhaus, Hunter, Webb, Dunkley, Smith, Liberatore, Daniel and Jong.
Imagine the key backs we have next year with Morris, Young, Adams, Roberts, Cordy and Collins
Imagine the small back we have next year with Biggs, Johannisen, Williams, Suckling and Wood
Imagine our ruck/resting forward combinations we have next year with Roughead, Boyd, Campbell and English
Imagine our forward line with only Dickson, Greene, Lipinski, Cloke, Picken and Redpath. We seriously need to add more of those blokes if we are to compete especially if we lose Stringer which I havent included in this list

Has anything reported actually been confirmed as completely accurate? And who says it's the club leaking it? Wallis was interviewed on SEN, and he's speaking as a player, not an official.
Wallis would be seen as a representative of the club and I'm sure the club would have briefed him. The information either comes from the club or Stringer/ his manager. IMO it is not in Stringers best interest to have his poor attitude to training and leadership out there in public forums, It's also not in the clubs best interest.

From BF reliable posters we hear from their multiple sources that there is trouble with Stringer. For me it is safe to assume the leaks come form the club.

He could be right. Now.
He could be extremely wrong in 5 weeks.
Mitch Wallis almost retired after missing the grand final. 5 or so weeks later he was the hardest worker in the preseason.
The human mind is a strange place.
Absolutely, I said similar earlier. I believe all the mail that says "he's gone, he wants out" but 5 weeks is a long time. Things can easily change.

So Jake Stringer = Allen Christensen (pick 21) :$

1. Crameri getting an offer if stringer leaves is great news.

2. This didn't come out at the exit meeting. The drink and jake have been off each other for much of the season. Gordon keen to try and repair it. Neither coach or player are interested at this stage.

3. Can anyone think of a quality player that might go to the suns (from any team)? Peter wright should be our target imo.
Bev doesn't strike me as someone who makes arbitrary judgments of character. He also comes across as pretty tolerant and accepting. If Bev is off him, that's a huge alarm bell for me.

Fronk..as we have conversed before several times thought id ask you for your vibe on this rumour. Is it just a carryover from the Flag? Has JS just lost focus for reasons outside of the club? Players are human and all have their up and their down and what happens in these contracted players situations can be ugly McCarthy, Ablett recently and probably others. I hope you guys can find a way to repair bridges and rebound next year.

If you are serious about 2mp.. ( I hope you are not because id like him when he becomes a FA ) the GC board seem to think they quality lack inside mids , probably depends on the way the new coach wants to shape the list.

I wouldn't say North have a crap list. A boring list I called it last year, no star talent. Stringer won't want to play for north, he'll want to play for Essendon/Tigers/Collingwood if not the dogs.

To be fair, the difference between pick 9 this year and 2 next year would be pretty massive I'd say but I doubt North finish that low. Aren't losing anyone, and would add Stringer and two top 10 picks this year in that case. So it could end up being a 2-3 pick upgrade or even less. Don't know if we have an appetite for risk that big.

I know it may appear as a pisstake to some, but i actually think it's a decent offer considering the value of 2018 firsts.

However i do acknowledge it comes with risk, although so does Stringer.
