Strategy Trade and List Management thread 4 (Be sure to huddle around your transitor radio at 11 am Edition)

Is the Stringer situation beyond repair?

  • The club clearly want him out the door.

  • This was just a shot across Jakes bow as a means of motivating him.

  • The club is clearly a rabble. Sack Macca!

  • This is just the first play in massive trade that we are not yet privy to.

  • This is a game of blink and Jake and Conners just blinked.

  • Its time to move on a negotiate the best deal we can.

  • I felt sad for Jake on that stage today.

  • We've warned you about creating polls Norm!

  • The Jack 'Armageddon option' Watts option

We are now losing a 23 year old JET who I have no doubt will make us pay and pay dearly for this move.

Don't try to spin a positive there isn't one and won't be.

We can't kick a goal and have no speed and are CHOOSING to trade the only bloke we have tgat has this and has lead our goal kicking for 3 years WITH ALLL HIS ISSUES.

What a f!cking joke of a club we are sometimes everyone is laughing at us again.

And look at all the lemmings that will amass and say this is the best thing and blah blah blah b!llsh!t. Lol thank god we won last year coz we are 60 years away from another one honestly useless football club.
At least Lin Jong will be back fit and firing for 2018

I reckon we need a powerfully built mid-size forward who can pinch-hit in the midfield, kick goals, and eventually split time between f50 and midfield. Needs to be a long kick, and able to stand up and break tackles. I'm not willing to give up much though - no draft picks, no players, maybe a weekend away with players and coaching staff, a few home truths and a group hug.
He needs to be committed to the cause though, one in, all in.

Anyone on the market?
Actually if you watched the VFL finals- Gowers meets all those criteria. And he can take a very strong overhead mark. Do not understand why Carlton de- listed him.

Sometimes you need to be delisted/fired to pull your head in and work harder.....

Edit: I know this from my own experiences in life. Jake has essentially been fired, let's see what happens next.

Fingers crossed St Kilda give us their pick 8 for Stringer.

Surely picks 8 and 9 could be enough to pry a decent key forward off someone. Lynch probably unattainable but a Wright/Cameron etc etc.

We need someone ready to go now. Who knows how Dickson and Cloke will fare next year. Ditto Redpath.
I want a minimum of pick 7 & 8 for Stringer & 9

Is Close any good? I haven't heard much about him for a while.
He hasn't really had much continuity with a few injuries through his time in Brisbane. Then you have guys like Schache and Hipwood who are ahead of him.
Spud. Can barely get a game at Brisbane.
At least he has played 10 games this year in a team full of elite young KPF's like Schache and Hipwood unlike another player who can't break into a side that has none and is constantly brought up here.

Moving on from Stringer...

Any potential value trades like Biggs out there?
We are probably losing Stringer, Crameri, Cooke could retire and Redpath is injury prone.

Yes Jarrad Waite is injury prone also but he's good for 2 goals a game, better overhead and better ground pressure. Worth a one year deal as a UFA and a list spot in a premiership window team. Especially with our diminishing tall/medium forward stocks.

Granted he might only get 10 games in but we probably win an extra 2 or 3 games with him.

I rate Taberner over Close as well. Close has a lot of nearly moments but doesn't mark the ball. Taberners a pretty good mark of the footy.

We have heard from the media, BF contributors and the club. We await to hear from Jake and Manager I guess they are the only ones left who haven't commented.

Yeah no. He will nominate
He doesnt hold all the cards. If he rejects a club this year that has the clubs only acceptable trade deal he could remain at the dogs. If 2018 is similar or worse than 2017 he can wipe 200k per year off his contract from 2019 onwards.

Long term financial security will come into play in his decision.

So nothing that isn't publicly known.

I would suggest that the club have tired of Jake's apparent recalcitrance and have decided to cut their loses before control reverted to Jake and his management at the end of next year.
Could not have put it better myself Norm. No individual is bigger than the team and whilst it is painful to see such a talented player potentially moved on, it is better that it occurs now so that we can at least get something for him.

Big no to Waite.

Def keen on Taberner. So much more upside than downside to signing him

He will nominate one club who gives him the best offer.

We will then need to deal with that club. I think the club wants to move him on badly enough we will then accept the best compensation they peovide.. probably late first round maybe even later

At the end of the day the players hold alot of power now and if we want him out badly enough we will accept what we can despite what Beveridge said yesterday

That is another reason we shouldn't want him to nomimate essensope, they won't offer their first pick (never do).. if they do it will be at the eleventh hour so we can't ontrade it

Sorry for the intrusion again, but this trade is widely misunderstood by the media. We gave up pick 5 but upgraded pick 23 to 14 & also had 44 come back our way. Using the AFL points system that is around 1170 or pick 14.

Obviously you will want to be getting better than pick 14 for Stringer. I would be happy for the Saints to give up 1 first rounder. I reckon pick 7 is probably pretty fair. That is unders from a talent perspective, but there is obviously a fair bit more to the story. The extra risk makes this pretty reasonable IMO, however I am sure some will disagree.

Regardless, for both of us I hope Stringer is willing to consider a trade to Saints. It will be a pretty clean trade if it is us. The last thing you want is to be dealing with Dodo for 2 weeks. He will use every dirty trick in the book to get leverage, would not put it past him to leak "fake" news regarding the Dogs to further manage the public perception of Stringers "true value". Absolute nightmare to deal with.
I think that this is spot on. I don't think we can expect anymore than a Top 10 pick given the circumstances. If i was St Kilda i would be offering pick 8 and keeping 7.

You arenassuming staying at the dogs doesnt hurt his long term income. If 2 clubs offer similar contracts then he will go to the one who offers us the best deal or stay.

cheers, that's interesting - I'd happily see us target him in the trade period
Only problem is he makes suckling look like Liam picken going for a hard ball. He had 0 tackles in a final that went to extra time.

I do love his ruining ability and decision making though. I guess everyone cant be good at everything

Not sure if it's been mentioned but finally an intelligent comment on stringer.

Eade on radio said that if lever is worth 2 first rounders so is stringer, although given the club want him out he doesn't think we will get that, he also said what deal we get most likely comes down to who blinks first, for example whether we take a lesser offer cause we are scared to be stuck with him or the club that wants over pays on fear of missing out
