Strategy Trade and List Management thread 4 (Be sure to huddle around your transitor radio at 11 am Edition)

Is the Stringer situation beyond repair?

  • The club clearly want him out the door.

  • This was just a shot across Jakes bow as a means of motivating him.

  • The club is clearly a rabble. Sack Macca!

  • This is just the first play in massive trade that we are not yet privy to.

  • This is a game of blink and Jake and Conners just blinked.

  • Its time to move on a negotiate the best deal we can.

  • I felt sad for Jake on that stage today.

  • We've warned you about creating polls Norm!

  • The Jack 'Armageddon option' Watts option

He has next to no chance of even playing 1 game, should have been delisted last year, no club will even take a slight look at picking him up once delisted, in fact I would say no vfl club would even look to pick him up, he struggles at vfl level
Then again I have been around long enough to have heard similar comments about JJ when he was a rookie, now he is our first Norm Smith medalist.

We really shouldnt be retaining Hamilton. 3 years on the list and not a single game in the seniors, even with an extensive injury list for the majority of that time, another player rubbed out for a season due to the bombers and lets be honest we have a coach who rotates players through the 22 on a very regular basis.

Hamilton has hardly had any major injuries since his time at the club and has played over 50 vfl games. Take further into consideration that Lipinksi and Greene and this years draftees could easily move up the pecking order.

He should be a certain delist candidate IMO and we should use that spot to grab a project ruck, tall KPP or a JJ clone.

The historical average for a 5th round pick or rookie pick is around 20-25 career games. I'd say Hamilton is every chance to play 25 games across this career.
Historical average is irrelevant when we have the best recruiter in the AFL. What the hell do other spud recruiters track record have to do with our draft odds? Almost every rookie pick Dalrymple has made has been better or has more potential than Hamilton, let alone actual draft picks.

Dalrymple Rookie pick history (minus 2009, his first year which sucked):

2010 : Luke Dahlhaus, Jason Johanisson, Ed Barlow, Mitch Hahn.
2011: Lin Jong, Tom Campbell, Jack Redpath, Alex Greenwood.
2012: Brett Goodes.
2013: -No picks made that year-
2014: Roarke Smith, Daniel Pierce.
2015: Bradley Lynch, Luke Goetz, Jed Adcock.
2016: Nathan Mullenger-McHugh*, Josh Prudden(demote).

*NMM has already shown more potential than Hamilton has IMO.

That's a strike rate of 11/15 (%73) of rookie pick selections that are better/more potential than Hamilton.

And if we get into late draft selections it's even more impressive with, Williams, Young, Caleb, Dickson, Dale, etc.

We'll make about 6-8ish changes on the main list and two new rookies I reckon.

Maybe we will pick up Jacob Smith as a f/s rookie.

Think we will need only one or two KPPs this year considering that we went tall last year and them kids are showing good signs. Need to some players with better disposal when going I50 and finishers first and foremost.

Need to make a very good play at Lever.

Players that can mark around the ground would be nice to...it has been an issue for a while and it forces us into playing the way the opposition want us to play
There are a few high 180's low 190'cm players that could spark our interest in the TAC Cup.

Matthew Day could be Dals yearly basketballer :p

Why promote Lynch? I know he's had a few injury issues but his defensive work and contested game has hardly improved. I think he'll be lucky to survive on the rookie list.

Source?

On another note after watching Bailey Williams today if he's going to be the steak knives to get Jake Lever I'd do the deal in a heart beat was shocking today.
Agree, can't believe the lack of awareness he has. Posters on this forum seem to love him. He seems slow and sketchy with the ball in hand. He does seem to get in the right spot to get the ball. But I consider him surplus to needs strategically. Would not other members of he stays or goes. I reckon web has far more upside. Just my opinion of course.

How Williams is getting a game over Webb has me stumped. It makes me sick people are calling him our next Bob Murphy

Two points - I believe Ablett was called out by his teammates at Geelong for poor work ethic and training habits. He took the feedback on board and got much fitter and became a legend, rather than just a handy forward pocket. So his lack of fitness (as indicated by poor beep test) was holding him back.
Second, the beep testing isn't subjective, it is an objective measure. Maybe not the best or most accurate but still objective.
No I disagree on the beep test. It's just a way to measure fitness. But it's far from perfect or accurate. Therefore it is given far too much credence. It is just a tough guide in my opinion.
Exactly my point on Rayner. Just because a poor beeper doesn't mean he lacks fitness. Proved in Nationals his quality.

If we wanted j Kelly and he nominated us and they asked for Stringer or Libba it would be hard to say no ATM. 39 possessions so far today absolute gun. Love Stringer and Libba but jeez they have been disappointing this year. Dreamland but if we could get Lever as well. Looks like our first isn't 18 this year so that changes things too.
My Dream- In J Kelly out J Lever
Out - if we could get these young guns very interesting. Salary cap wise too.
Trying to make myself feel better. Who knows WCE, ESS, MELB, STK all may lose yet.
PS Kelly is Bonts mate isn't he. Get him Bont.

Kelly 42 and a goal. Wow he is getting more expensive by the minute. How will GWS afford him lol. Seriously unless impossible we should look at how to get him.

To any Crows recruiters reading this, we're all kidding of course. We have a list of champions.

To Josh Kelly, come and play with your great mate Bont.

Seriously he's barely turned 19 and being asked to play on some of the elite forwards. Similar to Young, no one wants trade him. All our defenders are copping it at the moment happens when your midfield is not helping out

You can never have enough fast players. Pittard needs to be a target even if he isn't best 22.
Not only to break away from packs and get handball receives. It's the off ball speed that is killing us.
Pace to lead into space and create openings for others. Pace to chase an opponent, pace to get out of trouble, pace to cover our zone.
