Strategy Trade and List Management thread 4 (Be sure to huddle around your transitor radio at 11 am Edition)

Is the Stringer situation beyond repair?

  • The club clearly want him out the door.

  • This was just a shot across Jakes bow as a means of motivating him.

  • The club is clearly a rabble. Sack Macca!

  • This is just the first play in massive trade that we are not yet privy to.

  • This is a game of blink and Jake and Conners just blinked.

  • Its time to move on a negotiate the best deal we can.

  • I felt sad for Jake on that stage today.

  • We've warned you about creating polls Norm!

  • The Jack 'Armageddon option' Watts option

Just out or interest- if it was a choice between Lever, Kelly or Darcy Moore- which one should we go for.?

I'd go for Moore
Kelly is that good probably him. Moore second and Lever third.

Don't think lever solves our problems of shutting down key forwards nor our forward issues. I'd take him though.

I'd go for Moore
Kelly. We have about 2 or 3 mids that can kick the ball really well. Way too many guys burning us by kicking it high and long to nobody and/or handballing to people under pressure.

Most blame should be attributed to Stringer and Libba out of anyone.
Stringer has been no worse than the second half of 2016 but seeing he was all aust in 2015 he just has not come on. A shadow of what he is capable of

Libba just average

Apart from Macrae, Mclean, Dale and Zordy there hasnt been much improvement and most have gone totally backwards

Cloke recruitment has not helped he will be lucky to play seniors next year, game has gone past him

Retirements and a few delistings of players that have been on list too long and perhaps a surprise trade or two to freshen up list

Libba etc big preseason expected put in 110% or just piss off

Gym for Mclean, Dale, Young etc please

Stringer was our leading goal kicker- harsh.
Our forward line is custard.
Not to mention he didn't kick multiple goals in any game for the whole second half of the season.

Not that I like doing it but if we're are attributing blame on players then he's probably where we should start.

Elephant in the room - what do we do with all those poor kicking mid fielders we have - Dunkley, Jong, Wallis, Smith, Dal, Hunter, The all work hard but are ultimately ineffectual against quick skilful sides like GWS. Can't play them all

He missed 4 games with the Carlton hammy then had one back under done then basically didn't pay today. Might explain his reduced second half of the season reduction

Still played 8 games in that period. Also Redpath averages more goals per game than Stringer and yet half of our bf supporter base want him out the door.

Stringer coasts along for sure, but blaming him for our woes is stupid.

His All Australian year came when the midfield and forward line purred along, with the exception of an ugly June/July. We played slick footy, we hit on the counter, we got the ball in quickly and he ate well.

It hasn't been so easy for him in a long while. Our forward entries are dreadful and he's expected to score amid chaos. He's explosive but nobody can sustain top form in that scenario.

The problem lies up the field and in the box, not with one player who uncorks so much of our potential when we treat him right.

I can sense he's becoming a whipping boy and I resent that.

Mclean has actually got a pretty impressive rig these days. He wouldn't want to be any heavier than he is now, ideal playing weight for him. Dale is lanky but it works for him. He's not an inside mid. He's light with a long reach and can leap at the ball like you saw him do today. Young I would agree is very under developed and could use another 10kg of muscle. The guy we really need to gain weight is English. If he can put on some bulk and play AFL we become a lot better side instantly.

Kelly plays in the best mid field in the comp. Rarely has to get his own ball. How good is he going to go in Norths midfield.

Moore plays as the only tall in one of the worst teams against the no 1 defender and still goes ok. Plus forwards get better as they age. He'd be very good in a decent team. No contest really.

Lever is a nice player who takes a lot marks. If he have Easton Wood already however- what will he add?

He's played one full game in the last six. Yet he's to blame for us missing the finals
As i said in another thread there several problems (all team orientated) as to why we didnt make finals. Obviously they dont start with just individuals but in terms of disappointing players hes easily the most disappointing as well as liberatore.

Take away the speed, the strength and the flashes of brilliance you have a player that often just is non existent in aerial contests, non existent with consistent defensive pressure, lack of ability to nail set shots and his lack of realisation that when he leads up at the ball carrier thats when hes most effective.

Hes easily the most disappointing playerr in the AFL with someone of his ability and no he shouldn't be compared to run of the mill players realistically the only player with the similar level of talent on our list is Bontempelli. And thats who i compare him to.

Its harsh yes and some may say its unfair, but at the end of the day when things dont go your way and when players fall around you, you look to your stars. Stringer isnt anywhere near that discussion anymore. If he wasnt wearing the red white and blue im sure many of his defenders (in which i previously would classify myself) would see him in different light.

Lever adds 8cm (on Wood) is a cleaner user of the ball, not to mention he is 6 years younger.
Moore averages less goals a game and assists than Redpath (in 2017). I'm not convinced yet that he will be a good player.
Kelly is a jet. Who do we have that plays that gut running, line breaking midfield role better than Kelly? I think he would complement our midfield (Bont in particular) beautifully.

I'm still Kelly, Lever then Moore (who I wouldn't trade for at this point of his career - not yet convinced).
