An improvement on 2017 then?

Stringer was injured/crap in the second half of the year and we lost Tom Boyd mid season too, Dickson can't play with injury anymore so I wouldn;t bank on him doing too much.

We will have Bailey Dale as a genuine finisher and apart from that, Crameri (who we haven't even offered a contract to as yet) and Boyd if he plays forward as 30-goal per year forwards. Not sure what else we have unless by miracle Lipinski comes on and/or we play Bonti & McLean forward who are both capable of being goal per game players as 50/50 mid forward types.

I was originally against it but have been warming to Schache simply because we need a target up forward. Shame Roughy can't kick, he's a beautiful contested mark but possibly the worst set shot for goal I have seen in the past couple of decades for the Bulldogs.
We stupidly passed on Schache

Will you consider it standing firm if Essendon only give 25+30 but we wrangle a more-useful future first next year, while also keeping a first rounder this year? It's a pretty decent outcome for us IMO.

Holding firm would be demanding Essendon's future first and keeping him if they don't wield. If Stringer can't come back, it's not an option.

Gotta make the best of the hand you've been dealt, not get stuck with a loose string 'cos we were too stuck to our earlier posturing.

I want to retain Stringer cos the offer is crap, but if we believe we are better off without him and that he can't come back, so be it.
well said. It's important to understand that when you posture or bluff, that's fine. But you can't then let that dictate everything that comes after. The sunken cost fallacy is critical to be aware of

Imagine the shitstorm here if we accepted the Essendon offer on day two of trade period.
Imagine the shitstorm here whatever the outcome of a Stringer trade.

If it's seen as caving/accepting too little/not maximising our draft position, the shitstorm will be epic.

As much as I've loved the early Bevo era (it's always the early work that's best, isn't it?!), I mirror King Harold's concerns of the weight of our historic management decisions. And like the King, I reserve my right as a long-standing member to take my pound of flesh if any decisions don't stack up.

So did a lot of other clubs, for varying reasons. We don't know the full story but either way the forwardline is a huge concern for us.

We were terrible at winning contested ball last year but between Libba coming back early to knuckle down for a big pre-season and Dunkley returning that helps us a bit in that department.

We must have a lot of faith in Adams playing forward and staying uninjured as I don't see how else we get back to anything approaching our 2016 form.

yep, a negotiation is just that. A negotiation. You try and get the best outcome you possibly can, and then you work through the process. Sometimes you bluff a big win, sometimes your bluff is called. Sometimes you get the lions share, sometimes you don't. But you play the hand you're dealt, and unfortunately in this situation the Bulldogs got dealt a 3 and 4 and the flop was all picture cards. You can't blame the dealer, you just do what you can.

Footy fans need to learn to not personalise the negotiation process.
Well put Lance. :thumbsu:

How many of our midfielders are capable of kicking goals to
Bontempelli, Picken, Wallis, McLean, Daniel, who else?

I think we will be fine if we start to kick more accurately in front of goal.

Not many teams are going to be capable of kicking a 20 goal game unless it happens to be against a real shit side playing bad on the day.
We bomb it into the forward line. We have zero there

Unless we switch Adams forward next year (and he gets through a year) we haven't addressed our forwardline issues this trade period which is a real worry.

We are taking 2-3 picks to the draft, we traded for a player on the edge of our 22 and a best 22 player via free agency, we are cutting our losses early and lancing a boil that caused off-field issues in 2017. Looks like we are in top-up mode.

We already lost the Stringer situation when we couldn't rehabilitate him this year. That's on him, not us, but it's still a loss. We doubly lost the Stringer situation when the only club that was interested in him was Essendon. Not even St Kilda considered him.

The offer Essendon has lobbed is awful, but we obviously are going to trade him because we sadly won't have him back. That's on Jake, not us.

Lance a boil and move on. Jake's personal failings and inability to respond to feedback have cost us, and him, a very successful career here. We move on with less disharmony and anything salvaged is a bonus.

If you thought this was going to end well, you obviously weren't paying attention.
10/10.

If he slims down he will be fine.. he's too top heavy which is contributing to his injuries

If we play Adams, Maclean, Picken and Crozier or JJ up forward there is at least some aerial firepower - we just need to make sure we don't kick to stationary targets - bomb it if we have to, but bomb it into some space to give our smaller guys a chance. I agree our forward line doesn't scream out quality but Adelaide's did and they fizzed when it mattered. Richmond's didn't and they smashed it. Ours' didn't look that flash on paper in 2016 - hell an undersized 11 game player was our CHF and yet we were Premiers.

Thankfully footy isn't played on a team sheet because ours won't win many games if it is. So Bevo will need to work some magic. Again.

Really hope Jake is forced to stay. And everyone who has handled this situation badly ,has to take ownership. And get better. If there was no clear plan, he should never have been put up for trade.
And Jake Stringer is not a boil.He is an all Australian match winner.
