The trades don't even align with your draft order whatsoever.

Adelaide's pick 14 could end up anywhere between pick 12 -18 depending on how Melbourne go in finals (pre priority picks, academy and F-S bids). That's a fair gap to be locking anything in with now.

Best 18:

Round 1, 2019:

B: Morris Wood Adams
HB: JJ Naughton Richards
C: Hunter Macrae Daniel
HF: McLean Boyd Williams
FF: Gowers Schache Picken
Foll: English Bont Libba
Bench: Wallis Suckling Cordy Dunkley

Miss out: Crozier, Lynch, Roarke, Jong, Greene, Dale, Lipinski, Trengove, Young

IMO the weak points of that team is age and experience - I genuinely think that’s a premiership team. Schache is young, Boyd (hopefully) continues to develop and English hopefully puts some weight on.

Add to this a top 6-8 draft pick and I’m understandably bullish about our chances of dominating again in 2 years.

At first I was going to comment that Crozier is a straight in...But geez if we have a break in terms of injuries (Not literally, hopefully) there's gonna be some serious competition for spots. That's just one silver lining of all the injuries this season; we've had young guys play really well when otherwise they may not even have gotten games. Some tough omissions. Of course we will get injuries - Wood, Morris, Adams, Suckling are all strong candidates for missing some time - which will allow for some of these guys to get in, but that competition should hopefully drive the team.

I do think based solely off present form Trengove is a better option as a ruck/fwd than Boyd is. Upside going forward is something else entirely, but if we only want to roll with Schache+English+ One of Boyd/Trengove, rather than both, I think Trengove (as a ruck/fwd) would be the better choice in a vacuum. Better mark, better in hitouts, better at winning the ball. Just a better player at present, and I think the one that should be selected if we hypothetically had to choose one of the two in a must win game. Hopefully Boyd elevates next season but Trengove (in that last month he played as one) was the most effective ruck/fwd we had this season.

What about Roberts? Dont your ridiculous hypotheticals always involve us trading him out?

Now I am not usually the most positive Bulldogs supporter but I really think we have a lot to look forward to next year no matter what happens this trade period. Bottom 4 next year you reckon? Only if we end end with 12 ACL’s and another broken neck (possible).

If our list continues to improve on the last 4 rounds we will play finals at a minimum. We have strong, improving youth on every line. Can we cover Wal and Dahl leaving? Absolutely.

I think a continual oversight when making predictions like this is failing to assess who we will be playing against and the fact that many other clubs have had injury lists, and many other clubs have either developing youth, or a big trade period that will see them grow and develop next year.

So while I see the same positive signs in the maturing list as what you do - Im probably a little more skeptical about where it has us finish next year .

Brisbane are reportedly going hard after Lachie Neale. It might mean they have given up on Wallis and he is staying?
Neale would be a great fit for us - hopefully we're enquiring there also

Could also mean Beams is heading to Vic, as rumoured - another who would be ideal for us.

Trengrove and English are the starting ruck combination for me in 2019.

English is going to overtake Boyd in the forward/ruck position. Athleticism and his marking are better than Boyd.

Can we carry Trengrove, English, Boyd and Schache in the same side ?
I don't think those four can play together IMO.

Last two games we played around with our structure to the point we struggled to carry Trengrove, Roughhead and Schache.
As Bevo has stated he threw a tall permanently on the pine in the last couple of games to improve our entries and ball movement.
Add another tall to that mix and I think its too much IMO

You just made me watch it....bastard!

To be honest Lloyd laid the boot in harder than Barrett. There sweeping statements like we have lost our ‘identity’ and have become ‘irrelevant’ is just lazy journalism.

They then go on to say that our last 4 games saved our season, we have good youth and we would push for finals next year. No proper analysis in their ‘wash-up’ just contradictory dribble.

Lloyd rated the year 4/10 and Barrett 2/10.
Lloyd had us finsihing 9-11 next year, and barrett 12-14.

Barrett just wanting to sink the boots in was the one saying we were irrelevant.
I think Lloyds assessment was pretty accurate wasnt it ?

- We had a season ruined by instability and constant changes - CORRECT
- Its hard to know what sort of game plan (identity) we play with cause it changed alot across the year with personal - CORRECT
- We dont know our best ruck combination yet - CORRECT

People get carried away and up in arms about nothing I think.
I would have given us a 4 also and have the same assessments on our year.

How about playing Tom Campbell, most rucks lack mobility. Our best average hit outs this year was Tom Boyd with 17.00 per game.
I have often posted the same thing through 2018. But given our match committee clearly had no intention of playing BTC even when we were getting pumped every week in the ruck, it was a wasted list spot all year.

Huge if true

What the chopping heads off bit? or the actual list changes?

Clarkson was punching walls and bullying umpires at his kids games around this time so who knows what he was doing with his players.

But yeah, what I wrote was mostly true on the significant changes part.

At the end of the 2010 season they chopped 13
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Hawthorn_Football_Club_season

2011 they actually only got rid of 8, but brought in 10 players to the club (I got that one partly wrong)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Hawthorn_Football_Club_season

In 2012 they got rid of 9
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_Hawthorn_Football_Club_season

So they got rid of 30 in 3 seasons basically.

We've been fairly conservative in our list management over the past two seasons and I don't think it's got us anywhere. We need to have a big cull, 8-9 changes is not going to cut it this year. I want a massacre.

Aren’t we just downgrading 7 for 14 in this scenario for a minor upgrade of 42 to 37. We can bid on West regardless with later picks so I’d be trying get those in before downgrading our round 1 pick. Have I missed something?

How much crystal meth must one ingest before coming up with a scenario like this?
