I dont understand how this point thing works. Obviously you cant package up picks from rounds 4+5+6 to pay for a high profile recruit.
How many low picks can you add together to get a higher number? at what point does it 'cut off' or whatever?
Like, imagine we traded a round 2 pick for someone elses two round 3s and two round 4s - could we then package up our own shit picks as well to get west with three rounds 3s and three round 4s? a total of six shit picks? (assuming the numbers add up)
Or does it basically just come down to the fact that all the shit picks in the world wont add up to a big number, so its self limiting?
In a nutshell, you have to use the next available pick after a bid.
If the points value of the pick you use is insufficient, the next pick you hold is used, then the next one, etc etc.
As a result of GWS being clever a few years ago, you can only use picks you hold that correspond to free list spots e.g. you can't trade away a round 1 pick for 12 round 4 picks to use on a bid if you only have 3 free spots available on your list.
Its why I wouldn't be averse to trading away pick 27 for mature talent, then trading Adams for pick 32 + change. We have plenty of spots free to use a second and a bunch of third/fourth rounders to cover West and Khamis, especially taking into consideration our rookie upgrades can be completed with picks that hold no points value (anything above pick 73).
