Trading draft picks right up until the pick is actually being made and mid-year drafts means that our general understanding of list management is very different, important to keep that in mind.

The last genuinely dominant KPF to be taken 'late' would be Fev at 31 or 32, although Tom McDonald has broken the mould as a pick in the 50s who is now an excellent tall forward (after many years as a backman).

I guess that's the issue taking tall forwards late - the only ones who make it might be tall backmen for the first half of their career. Fraser Gehrig comes to mind too, FB at WCE then a gun KPF at St Kilda.
Gehrig was a first rounder though.
He started off as a winger Matty Croft style

Fair enough - reinforces the point on how rare decent KPF talent is outside of the first round.

Which player currently on our list was drafted the 2nd earliest among all players after Morris?

Think about it. You probably won't get it.

The answer is Matt Suckling.

What frustrates me is that we all knew that Honeychurch wasn't a long term solution. I understand you want to send a positive message to the players and reward high work ethic. But we could have injected all of those games into other players with higher ongoing potential. At the elite level, why waste match day development?

There were several times during the season that the only midfielder who we had waiting in the wings was Porter, who is by all reports not at the required level yet. No need to throw kids to the dogs, I think the club has been pretty good at developing our youth. I'm comfortable with Honey getting games in the middle last year given the injuries we had.

Dale Morris is going to play a significant number of games with West Jr.* and West Snr which is pretty wild when you think about it.

*Assuming Morris plays on until he's like, 40.

no - they were all injured

Fair comments and questions, but haven't we already moved a significant number of staff on (and some have left via their own volition)?

Baines and Power are two significant new faces within the club's management structure, and there has been a review of the club's medical staff (worryingly, the person many seem to have issues with is still there and I have kept hearing worrying signs as recently as Tueday two days ago).
Gordon once said of our departures that "the adults were left to run things". My biggest worry is that maybe the adults left the children to play with their toys (our club) alone.

Could not agree more.
Blind Freddy could see he is never going to make AFL standard.
Re signing him last year was bloody ridiculous .

Just wondering, but what does the actual nomination of West do?
Gives us the right to match any bids on him as a player, and we only have to match 80% of the points of whatever's bid on him.

Morris is a machine, he'll be there when his own boy gets drafted. The first father/son to play AFL together lol.
