I raised him as a potential replacement, but the period ended last Friday right? Do you mean mid-year, or did we get an extension?
Yeah mid season draft, my bad

For anyone hoping to get value for guys like Dale and Webb, forget it. You get value for players if you trade them in form. You get stuff all for fringe players now unless they were once high draft picks (see Schache, Watts).

I think Dale has upside but if he performs we will want to keep him.

Webb, like Roberts, got two years when he had earned one. If he’s not best 22 at year’s end he will get the Tijuana.

Dunks is a keeper for mine. We’ve been crap for two years and everyone is below their best value. End of 2016, Dunks, Daniel and others would have drawn overs but not now.

Probably the thing that killed us last year was just inexperience. Simply a lack of AFL games into our key players.

Our median games in round 1 of 2018 was 64.5.

With injuries quickly rolling in, that figure dropped to the mid 50s or lower through the rest of the season - and we were actually the most inexperienced team in the entire comp most weeks.

So has this been addressed in the off-season?!

Well the short answer is no.

Where is has been addressed is in the organic growth of our list who tge majority have acquired an additional season worth of games.

So despite losing Morris and JJ to injury, we have a median games level of 67 in round 1 this year.

It also is looking more healthy in the 12th to 18th player bracket, with more players closer to the median than to 0.

But..... so what?

Well, as much as i’ve gut-felt pessimistic about our JLT form, the numbers do not lie and I think we can genuinely expect a stronger and more consistent effort over the course of the season.

Let’s see...

Webb, Roberts and Porter will be delisted at the end of this year. Morris and Picken will retire. Roarke Smith should be cut, but he seems to be a coach’s pet.

There should be half a dozen list spots open, so a massive opportunity.

There will definitely be another cull come the end of the year. Thinking that the trade table may be a focus to add some experience and possibly a Key Back if we are going to leave Naughts forward

Morris- ret
Picken- ret
Boyd- ret
Jong- trd
R. Smith- del
Roberts- del
Webb- del
Porter- del

There's 8 spots opened up

We just won the 1st game of the season, in a great match, with our recruits looking good and the young guns continuing their rise.

Why is anybody discussing the list changes right now?

Bailey Dale will almost certainly be re-signed imo. There was an interview with Bev on the Dogs site a few weeks ago where he named Dale as one to watch without any prompting whatsoever. The club rates him.

We were the youngest team to secure a win, coming up against a team that averaged a year older than us. Also the second least experienced winner (although only Saints were less experienced, and they beat Gold Coast who were even less experienced). I think these are two really positive signs from our win - that we not only managed it against a much older and more experienced side, but that we are still among the youngest and least experienced teams in the competition (given that we basically fielded our best 22 minus JJ) so there is still enormous room for improvement.

In saying that, it's still round 1, so really need to see the team continue the form from round 19 last year onwards.

Because we don’t wanna work??

Amazing to think that's after adding Sam Lloyd and Doc Duryea to the team.

Might be a little different when JJ comes back into the side. English replacing Trenners in the ruck has an impact too.

Was honestly a little surprised too at how young our team was. Last year we fielded the youngest side every single round, but I attributed that to injuries to our key players. With Libba back in the side, Dickson playing, Duryea/Lloyd added in, and Wood injury-free, we were still among the youngest sides this round. Guess it shows how much we rely on our younger players with Bont, Macrae, McLean, Hunter, Schache, Richards, Daniel, Naughton, Dunkley, Gowers and Cordy all easily our best 22 and younger than most teams' averages, not to mention English and Williams who arguably slot in there too.

Get the cheque book out for Jamie Elliott if he can get through the season. Exactly what we need as a free agent.

How many small forwards do we realistically need? I'm happy enough with McLean and Lloyd for now and Cavarra could end up being a player too. I'd be trying to sign up a quality KPD to give us the freedom to keep Naughton forward.

I love Mclean (not in entirely the same way that you do Scrag). But he’s not a 50 goal a year guy.

And Lloyd’s a great/cheap pick up. But he’s not an elite forward like Elliott.

Elliott’s got elite power and speed. He’s amazing overhead and a cat on the deck.

He’s in a different class to lloyd and a different style of player to Mclean.

Elliott's career best is 35 goals. I could see Lloyd kicking that. I'm not against going after an elite small forward (I would have loved Wingard), but I think you're overrating Elliott a tad.

I wouldn't be against going after him as I'm sure you're right that he would be an upgrade on what we've got. But I wouldn't want to be throwing substantial money at him when we can get similar output from dirt cheap players.

Small forwards are draftable in a team that wants them - has Bevo ever played a specialist crumbing small forward though?

Guys he's played seem to be tough contested types who are there to give us an edge at F50 stoppages (Clay Smith) or guys who can lead, mark and play higher up the ground (Dickson, Lloyd).
