Believe plan B is to take 7 to the draft and get Smith.

They are very confident he will be there at 7 due to not wanting to go interstate. In saying that we were also very confident on Wingard so who knows
I'm ok with this if we also have our eyes on a few mature moneyball types.

While I am all for targeting Kelly this year (and next year too if it comes to that) with all the players GWS has lost this year plus Scully possibly, I don't see how they would agree to him going early unless it is for massive overs.

If no Kelly this year then take Pick 7 to the draft and try and pick up mature types with whatever picks are left over from West.

How can you see it any other way? You think a club would come out and state our interest publicly but not go hard?
Did I miss an interview somewhere saying "we're going to move heaven and earth to make sure Wingard is a Bulldog in 2019"???

"We've definitely got interest in Chad, and we've signalled that to his management"

"There's no doubt we've got interest in Chad," Power said.

That's the extent of what I can find on what we've committed to getting him. Sounds exactly like we had an idea in mind of what he was worth to us and refused to pay overs. I'm a fan of that.

Scully to Hawks??????

Clearly salary cap rules don’t apply to them.

What could they possibly have to trade for him?

Truly bizarre.
I’d suspect the Hawks would be backending any new contracts given they have so many nearing then end. Biggest danger is being able to offload say a Wingard in a couple of years if he doesn’t work.
We aren’t in the same position of being able to do that given our age demographic hence having to make choices on who we keep and who we plan on keeping in the coming years. Guess we chose a perceived low offer on Dahl and probably Libba given the risk of future output. A smart move I believe.
Our biggest hurdle is now is getting the players to gel and get some continuity in playing together

IdI prefer we go to the draft. Keep our money to re-sign the bont and the others.
The issue is what do we do with pick 27? At the very least I hope we can turn that into a mature player as well. We can trade Adams for multiple later picks that should cover the points needed for West & Khamis. Brisbane gained 100+ points in their pick swap trade with GCS.

Perhaps even a pick swap with GCS so they get a higher pick and we gain more points. They even have a VFL-list concession pick left so might be able to secure Hayes and late picks for no points loss.

This is the big one really. Would not like it to be consumed by West. Hopefully we can utilise a trade for Adams to either package the 2 picks together for a mature player or Adams and the pick for a mature player or combine the 2 picks for a trade down before a club nominates West

I honestly can't get my head around it being another quiet trade period for us.

We are screaming out for mature players yet aren't able to pry one loose apart from an average FA and Sam Lloyd. I'm sure people will prove me wrong but I feel that this period would be pivotal in our list build.

If you look at our recent history, we’ve been able to get some decent players in but it’s either been because we’ve looked like playing finals (Suckling, Aker, Hall etc) or because we threw dough at them (Crameri, Boyd).

We’ll be able to land big fish again when we look like getting back in it. Taking Cloke in 2016 was a massive waste - perfect opportunity to snare someone special. Perhaps no real quality was available.

Hawks, Geelong and Sydney have been abnormally successful in recent years and players expect they will play finals more or less every year. If we get to that point we will be in the mix every year for quality.

So if I get my head around this right....

We have pick 27 worth 703 points. If West got bid on at, say 20, worth 912, minus the 20% discount, that would be 730 points. So we'd lose pick 27, and one of our later picks would get dragged back 30 points? So our pick 45 would get dragged back to 46?

I feel with the Scully to hawks situation that we’re still a chance with Wingard.

Reminds me when we did the sneaky backdoor job to get Jade Rawlings
Wow you’re optimistic....

Watch the hawks...they will make it happen and be in the running for another flag in 2019. We could seriously learn a thing or two.

Scullys ankle must be ****** after that break if gws are trading him out on top of Lobb and Shiel. He got a new deal back down to a reasonable amount too didn't he?

Adams doesn’t want to stay...are we really going to keep that around the club?
Probably not but I’d be making a stance until very late unless it stops a potential trade for us in the hope we get a better deal. If Bris are only offering a late 4th or 5th and we have no use for it then I’d hold him. We just have to let it play out

Hawks apparently going hard for Scully too. Surely we can put our hat in the ring there and trump any offer they put out..
Yep, let's tell him we won half the games that the Hawks did, our membership is around half of theirs, and we play at Etihad in front of small crowds and Ballarat in the middle of winter.... Oh, wait...

Reminds me more of Hawks getting Mitchell and O'Meara at the same time

I guess at some point a club will have to make a stand and force a player to honour a contract. We might be the test case.

There's a much higher chance of them just palming off roughead or one or two older blokes to free up cap.

The only way I’m okay with this trade period is if we can use the Dahl pick and something else to land a pick between 10-15
