Had hoped that we had learnt to play our cards close to our chest. Was hoping that was the reason behind there not being much news with us. Losing hope that that is the case. When it gets to Friday and the only guys you’re linked to are Duryea, Townsend and Lloyd whilst not having a great draft hand - it’s pretty freaking depressing.

Last year we lost Stringer but we had two first round picks, a big man free agent, and a former number 2 pick we could sell hope with.

Don’t think we can sell much hope for 2019.
Hope isn’t something you can buy, it’s a state of mind

Can’t see much other talent out there on the trade table for us. Maybe only May if the Dees don’t trade Hogan. We May end up with just Lloyd and Duryea. I think Duryea a chance if the swans get Langdon. But I’m hoping not.

Many yelling for mature bodies and players and we are trading out Adams who has the size we need and who is contracted.

I expect a good deal in our favour to let him go or he stays.
The club has literally said they don't want to trade him as he's a required player, so I don't see what you're complaining about here

For those in the know, didn’t Hawthorn break the rules to get O’Meara? How on earth can they possibly have the currency and salary cap to now add Scully and Wingard? I know they’ve lost some experience of Kate but please...

Don't forget Scrimshaw from the Suns too - AFL website is reporting that the Hawks are going hard for all 3 of them whilst keeping Burton. Crazy.

The melts on this board are becoming embarrassing.

Yes we missed Wingard who we really wanted and tried hard to get and that is frustrating and annoying.

Yet to be demanded the club throw pick 7 at any player possible without due dilligence is ridiculous. It takes a long time to put the work into a player to actually work on them and get them wanting to come to the club and working out how to get them, it's not a last second thing.

We have a very promising list, yes we are young and yes we are likely looking at another year or two of pain but why throw everything at a player simply cause they may be available. If we added Lloyd, Townsend and Menzel cheaply is it really a disaster? we need players that hit the scoreboard more than anything, we have gowers, dickson and greene as natural mid-small forwards.

I would like to see us make a play for Ben Long, get Lloyd, look at one of Townsend or Menzel cheaply and also if Freo get Hogan and Lobb on top of already having McCarthy and Tabener, I'd have a crack at Hugh Dixon as another tall forward half option.

But if we miss out we get Lloyd, pick 7 (in a high quality top 8 draft), West and Khamis, and we get more games into our quality 22 and under players, plus for once our talented players for once will be hitting 150-200 games as they reach their peak age which has rarely happened at our club in recent years.

But sorry for interrupting the doom and gloom, lock the club up and give up mood.

Yep. We’ve signed the papers for Dahl and will probably sign the papers for Adams and perhaps Libba.

We’re involved alright...just not in a good way!
It hurts a little when its hard to argue with Barrett's sliding doors post today.

If
good players want to leave and other good players don't want to come ...

then
there's probably something in that.

Fremantle are so embarrassing when it comes to trades.

They’ve been crying out for a key forward forever and finally Hogan nominates and they won’t pay his worth...

They want more for Neale than what they offered for Hogan. Seriously embarrassing operation they run out west.

That's what has me stumped.
I think they have only used 1 first round pick in 4 years.
They plan on moving out this years and next you would think to get all their deals done.

Was sure teams were not allowed to do this.

How would Burton be feeling? Bit disgruntled? Hope we've got his phone number. Might be worth a call.
Discussion in the ryan burton thread (pre trade shock) is all about how they hope Clarko moves him to the forward line.

I reckon we could do a hell of a lot worse than go for this bloke given our need for mature bodied players with forward craft.

And heaven forbid we have more injuries to defenders, he can obviously play back if requried.

It's a classic case of the AFL rewriting the rules as they go. They allowed Geelong to trade away more first round picks than what was meant to be allowed as well.
It's a rule that just shouldn't exist if they're going to pick and choose.

Not quite, it doesn't come in until next year, the 4 year period started in 2015. Geelong is not allowed to trade their 2019 first round pick as they haven't met quota of that period, Hawthorn can trade their 2019 first round as have as they used 2 first round picks in 2015 draft (within 4 years), They won't be able to after this year though, and the years following as they will have taken 0 first round picks in last couple of years.

Makes me wonder why we don't make a point of dealing with the clubs that a "less well" run and take advantage. Although to be fair Brisbane seem to be taking that line with us.

I like the idea of picking up Lloyd & Townsend cheaply to balance out our list a bit and keep some pressure on Dale, Greene, Gowers, Dickson, and force West to earn a spot in a pocket etc.

Don’t care if we only get 2 years out of them both.
townsend is only 25
