Really smart by West Coast I reckon. They are in the window now and need to make the most of it. Midfield class and polish the weak link. With Kennedy and Hurn getting on they have got one or two years to get a flag before they slip down the ladder

Lol, no way. They have built an awesome team and should contend for finals for many years to come.

They have noone coming through and now no picks. They dont have a lot of depth and will be losing some huge players soon to retirement and age/form regression. They have loaded up to win a flag and good on them. In two years time they are in some strife but they had to go for it now

thatd be really confusing - he'd clearly be put into forward rotation at essendon which is the whole reason hed leave port

Managers have only said he was told to look around. Prefers back but will go forward if he has too.

Eagirls have got a FA lined up for next year. They have a good eye for local talent and their academy is good. Almost the gold standard in AFL.

They will be a big threat to our opening flag window.

Their midfield is Shuey (29), Redden (29), Hutchings (28), Gaff (27), Yeo (26), Kelly (25) and Sheed (24). They’re going to have a very good midfield for a very long time.
It'll be good for the next couple of years, but Redden is a below average midfielder, Hutchings is below average and is up there as one of the worst kicks in the competition (great tagger, though), Shuey relies on his speed a bit which means he may experience a fairly large drop in a couple of years.

Gaff, Yeo, Sheed and Kelly should stick together for a good 4-5 years though

They’re not good but they do a lot of defensive running and will allow the others to do their thing.

What a deflection towards Freo for the Tim Kelly trade being that West Coast is more suitable for his family than perennial under-achievers & a club of battlers. Just say they are shit & you want to join a much bigger team with a better fan base, Fremantle is less than 25kms from Perth.
Nice touch saying that a large number West Coast players have young kids to help with their own, but just tell it how it is & you want in for a team closer to success :moustache:

Using the points calculator (I know it's not a perfect way of doing it, but it's a guide) and conservatively guessing finishing positions of 4th for WCE and 6th for Geelong in 2020, the trade is valued at 3126 points for Geelong - slightly over pick 1. The higher West Coast finish the better value he becomes.

Good deal for the Eagles in my opinion. Gives them another shot at a flag next year and minimum 5 years of Kelly who is a star.

2020 Assumption: WCE 4th, Gee 6th

Kelly + 57 + 49 (Season 2020) = 14 + 24 + 16 (Season 2020)

Kelly = 1161 + 785 + 1067 - 182 - 287

Kelly = 2544 (= pick 2).

As you said, if the Eagles should slide, could easily go above pick one points value.

The beauty of the trade for Gee is that Kelly wants out and already tried last year. He is a problem. I think in these circumstances it is best to deal with the matter and the return is a lovely hand of picks for this year and next year.

Every team will still tag Shoey so Kelly may get of the chain there too.

Pretty pis* poor if we only have one trade done by day 4.
I think the trade period is more about the players and the clubs and getting deals done more so than fan enjoyment.

I think as fans we will have our turn next week to see what's been transpiring.

Would anyone do Bruce for 13 + swap of next years first rounder? Saints likely to use it as bait for Ben King move anyway so may not value a (potential) downgrade as highly as still fits the bill of first rounder as trade bait.

When you say swap of next year's first rounder, do you mean

Bulldogs receive: Bruce plus StK 2020 first round
StK receive: WB2019 and 2020 first rounders?

If so, then absolutely no way would i do that

Would we be open to trading our 2020 first f

Would rather leave 13 out and do - 2020 1st > Bruce + StK 2020 2nd.
Maybe even throw in a 3rd rounder this year for their 2020 3rd.
Gives Saints an additional 1st for King plus we don't slide that far back anyway :thumbsu:

No, too many ifs. I would consider it if, say, it was certain that JUH went pick 5 and certain that the proposed pick swap gave us a pick higher than 5.

Too risky. Beyond getting a first rounder in before having to match JUH, an upgrade of around 6-10 spots next year is not enough to get me to part with pick 13 this year straight swap for Bruce.

Yeah I like this suggestion. Move points to next year to make up for losing the 1st, and with bid matching it essentially costs us nothing to bring Bruce in, while giving Saints a 1st plus an extra 3rd this year to get trades done

Seems Jack Steven deal has hit a snag... Saints have asked about all geelong's picks post Kelly trade including their first rounders

Lol saints

If he stays Bruce just cannot
Zero chance Steven will be at the Saints next year. There's still 5 full days of trade period left after this.

Looks like we will end the trade period with bruce and keath as the only additions.

Id like at least a small forward or some more picks but beggars cant be choosers.

I'm not convinced we'll get Bruce if we need to trade pick 32 to Adelaide for Keath. Unless we trade a contracted player??

If Bruce comes to the club is 2020 the third consecutive year where our goal kicking award is taken out by a guy in his first year at the club?
Or does Astro get it?
