Yeah I was thinking of an alternative to Bruce. I know they’re vastly different players but the structure could still work.

Whats the fascination with Dougal Howard?

All indications are that he's not good enough to command a spot in the Port backline. Indeed some of their supporters would have it that he has slipped to 4-5th in line for slot in defence and it would appear that Port told him that if he was to remain on the list he needed to play forward, something that he has not adapted to which has led Port to look at ways to cut their loses and cash in whilst he still has some value.

Total points value for Geelong = about 2,500 = equivalent to pick 2.

WCE got Kelly for picks that equate to pick 2 in the points system.

I think Kelly is worth that at least. WCE got the better of the deal, imo. This is because Geelong has a star player who has said he wants out and to go back to WA.

Basically a sweetener from the reported (?) offer from Adelaide of 13 for Keath and 23, where they also upgrade our 33 to 28.

Wouldn't be a bad result. Pick 23 as well as our three thirds to do something with.

Worse thing about the Kelly trade:

For years the cats have topped up with older players trying to stay in the window. The consolation to the rest of us was that it will eventually come back to bite them without youth and draft picks. But now those mother effers have a huge selection of early draft picks!

Ablett won’t be as good, whoever replaces Kelly won’t be as good, Taylor won’t be as good, Selwood will gradually decline....

Inside word... If the Saints don’t land Dougal Howard they are going to make it extremely hard for us to get Bruce.
If they get Howard the next domino to fall will be Bruce.

Howard has nominated the Saints so that will make the Bruce negotiations a bit easier now.

As it stands they want Brad Hill, Zac Jones, Pat Ryder and Dougal Howard.

They have pick 6 (surely Hill) and pick 59 (Ryder you'd think).

Port will rightly want a high pick for Howard. We shouldn't give anything above our 2nd round (without something decent coming back) for Bruce. They should get a 2nd rounder for Steven. Sydney will want decent picks for Jones....

They're gunna hold this whole thing up.
