No that 4 way deal wasn’t too bad though.

Look at it closely and what we give up and Adelaide get for Keath.

The other three way is essentially separate and very close to what we were offering for Bruce all along. All it tells us is we need to satisfy what Sydney want for Jones to get Bruce as saints are happy with a straight swap for Jones. We were only 4 spots off that. Guarantee it happens tomorrow.

Adelaide on the other hand make out like bandits - a ten pick upgrade in a shallow draft from 23 to 13 is significant. A 4 pick downgrade from 32 to 28 is not. And they get 51 for a player let’s not forget who is:

1. Uncontracted
2. Injured
3. 27 (28 next season)
4. Played under 30 games

Personally I am happy that the Dogs are playing a bit of hardball. There have been many times when the Dogs have been screwed in previous deals or allowed good players to move with good will,

Stringer - screwed
Griffin - screwed at the time although in hindsight we rulled this trade
Higgins - Good will
Ward - AFL screwed us

The list goes on and on. If we get the trades done, thats great but its about time we held the whip.

Stringer - Has worked out well. Schache and Richards.

Griffen - We win

Higgins - not a trade, free agency. Yep unfair compo

Ward - We got fair compensation, Melbourne got absurd compo for Scully which made the compo we got for Ward look bad.

Can Keath go into the preseason draft and just put a caveat on his head to say he'll only accept a 4-year deal worth XYZ and the 'Dogs just hope Saints or another Melbourne club respect his wishes? I don't even know if this is a done thing in the AFL community anymore.

Someone enlighten me. Assuming it's not done regularly as it opens that player up to be taken by literally anyone willing to match the contract.

We're trying to foment some paranoia here. You're not helping.

Can anyone help me out here?
  • Who's Anthony Scott?
  • When does trade period finish and what about the deadline for trading draft picks? When's the draft?
  • What sort of player is Dylan Williams?
  • I've got this 17-way trade suggestion (details to follow a bit later - it goes over 3 pages so still a bit of typng to do). What do you think?
  • Hahaha ... Saints think they can get Hill without pick 6 (sorry that one's not really a question)
  • What do St Kilda fans think we should offer to get Bruce?
  • What bids do people think our 2020 NGA's will attract?
  • Where can I see footage of Cody Raak?
  • Are we going to FS Oliver Liberatore?
  • Reckon it's worth going hard for Papley? He might be the pressure forward we need.
  • I heard Elijah Taylor is prone to homesickness. Anyone else heard that?
  • Why don't we just trade pick 13 to get Bruce and Keath and be done with it?
  • Anyone reckon we could get Ben King here? Apparently he wanted us to draft him last year.
  • How big are Sam Power's cojones?
  • What do people think of sending Mitch Wallis and Lin Jong to Gold Coast in exchange for some picks? They could really use players like those two.
  • Somebody mentioned a thread search feature. Anyone know what that's for?

No need for the sarcasm. I just like tidy and simple threads that's all. Its the slight OCD in me.

That four way deal was massively in Adelaides favour happy we turned it down. Only way it would have been even was if Adelaide threw a future third rounder back.

It appears we really rate someone around 13 that is no chance of being there at 23.

we should have offered Adelaide 32, 45 and 51 for keath and 28. It rates keath at the same range as the other deal and Adelaide gain 2 third rounders and only move down by 4 spots in the second round in a draft they are planning on taking a lot of players in, rather than have 2 firsts and then nothing.

Can't see why he'd do that. He's finally got to the point in his career (a short one admittedly) where he can choose his club and city of residence as well as get the security he wants.

He'd have to wait through at least 31 other picks (maybe 40+?) before we draft him but knowing at any moment he could be sent to Perth, Gold Coast, Sydney ... or even Norf. There might be some places he's decided he never wants to go to, or some coaches he despises.

Just seems way too risky.

Given our track record in the draft recently, especially with high picks, I’d much rather trust our ability to develop someone with top 15 talent at 13 instead of using them on an older player.

I'm agreeing with you. We need an index for a thread series like this.

Can’t wait for trade period to start. Only 1 more sleep 👍👍👍 May even open AFL app tomorrow. Unsure why so many do the 1st week. If more boycotted it the AFL would stop the charade as the lack of activity would ring alarm bells in there.
Same goes for all these “expects” calling in radio stations. Just a blackout of calls week 1 would do the trick.
One can watch the news and easily see nothing has happened each day

My bad sorry. Yeah I was looking at other teams threads, and they keep the offseason threads by year. Halves the number of posts as well. And easier to find year XXXX thread, instead of guessing which 2 years is in which list management thread.

Also reckon the site could archive threads better as well. Like example one folder, titled 2018 Season. Inside it is a subfolder, one for game day, one for list and draft discussions. Have a folder for players, sub folders inside that for past, and current. Site is pretty much thousands and thousands of threads all over the place. Could find anything you want in 2 or three clicks than endless searches and scrolling. The search button does wonders, but doesn't filter very well.

Very very uneventful trade period so far. At one point you would be thinking weeks ago that it was shaping up as one of the biggest off season player movements in history. Instead its feeling like you need a big piss, but all you get is a little dribble.

Clubs no doubt would have been on the phone to each other all weekend. So seems despite two days to make calls and plans, clubs still cannot reach agreements. I think this is now the result of clubs now massively over valuing players these days. Everyone is trying to get a little extra these days, and no one wants to budge. Thankful the AFL ignored some clubs ideas to allow the future trading of picks to extend into an extra season. So clubs would be using 2019, 2020 and 2021 picks. Imagine clubs trying to rip off 6 first rounders for average players.

Was thinking this, but a little differently. As he is uncontracted, would it be possible he ends up delisted and can join us as a delisted free agent? I think he can and this is why Bruce should be our priority.

Not if he has a contract offer from the crows and I'm pretty sure he does.

Pre-seaspn draft is different to the regular draft. Usually, only a few picks taken by clubs with list spots left. No idea if it's feasible though. Someone at work mentioned it and I didn't know much about the mechanism tbh. Hoping someone could shed some light on it.

Not 100 percent on this but pretty sure preseason draft has been scrapped from this year
