Too many get caught up in the romance of the son of a favourite son playing in the same side.
Probably an unpopular opinion, but I think West is just a polder. There’s nothing about his current game that stands out in any of our lines. Slow, ordinary skills, not great decision making. He doesn’t have any attributes that demand a spot in our 22.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see him playing elsewhere, or even not at all in a few years.
I've been more critical than most around here on Cordy, I consider Macpherson nothing more than vanilla and understand why Wallis isn't getting a game.

This has nothing to do with him being a West, and everything to do with his relentless attack on the ball and clever ball usage in congestion. There's a lot of Viney in West and I think we'd be kicking ourselves if we let him go

I live in QLD so can't get to VFL games but the ones I see on Kayo show Westy to be a great little player. The game against Sydney, Melbourne and to a lesser extent North when we were getting our arses handed to us it was players like West and Lippi as well as a few VFL players who helped turn that around through grit. Against Melb he had 27 touches and 3 goals, the kid has talent. Yes he has things to work on but so does half our AFL list.

We are not a team of Champions, we have a few great players mainly in the midfield and some player who will be great but aren't there yet. These guys are surrounded by role players. West has grunt, hunger and a desire a few of the others could use. We have to keep this kid.

yes that is a very unpopular opinion but you might have hit the nail on the head. I hope you are wrong though. The Bulldogs have become the league benchmark for teaching and developing young players through their Footscray program. If they see something in a young player they will offer a contract

Just regarding the Pies walking Lipinski to the PSD, which I think I’d realistic, there is also a reason to avoid it.

The draft isn’t until late November, which means it’s essentially a 2 month wait for him to join the club which won’t be ideal.

A few mentally weak boys on our list that don’t back their ability to improve their games.

I think they should take a leaf out of Bailey Dale & Bailey Williams books.
To be fair the same thing was said about those boys most years pre trade period. I hope West in particular sticks around.

What is mentally weak about players recognising our midfield is 6 very strong and youngish mids deep, and that there are lots of other teams that have better opportunities due to their respective list management? Was Josh Kennedy weak for going to Sydney and winning a premiership? I don’t get this argument. It’s a business and the Window for all these guys is 8-10 years long - if they are very good. A mid who is #7-9 on our list of players, and who can’t get a senior game, should absolutely look at better options or they won’t get a career at all. I hope the club is helping them do so within reason. It’s disappointing to lose depth but we need the spots to fill our own holes anyway.
Totally agree. Add in that clubs are restricted by salary caps. Having a strong list either requires the elite to all be player for unders and those on the fringe the same. Whilst we may have “contracts” on the table for some, I’m sure they aren’t for much coin. If a player can’t see a window after 3-4 years then they’d be silly no to entertain better offers. Many draftees don’t even last 3-4 years in the system. Many good players don’t last 8 years so they are probably halfway through their career.
no issue if they are contracted or not as it gives them more currency and we hold at least some power.

I don’t think Mitch is a brilliant player.

However, I would absolutely love him to stay for his leadership. The way he carried himself looking in from the outside was absolutely exceptional.
For the romance of it I’d love him to stay, for what the rest of the group can learn about being the best person they can be I’d live him to stay.
for Mitch as a footballer, I’m hoping that some club splashes decent coin at him for a couple of years so he can play senior footy. He is a Bulldog for life no matter what. You can see why his old man captained the club. Steve can be proud he bought up such a great and impressive* young man.
*Impressive doesn’t do justice but couldn’t think of a better superlative ❤️❤️❤️

If we get Ladhams - well and good, but I wouldn't sell Lewis Young short in developing into a key defender, Tim English developing into a Forward Pocket or Jordan Sweet developing into a Primary Ruckman

Don't throw the baby out with the bath water
Don't think too many want to see Lewy go after putting 5 years development into him. It is more about maximizing return if he does decide to move on for more opportunity.

i wonder what family advice West is getting, thats the worry

“Multiple” clubs have asked about Sweet.
Was this via his FIFA/gaming streaming or whilst he was out doing extras?
Only a young fella and from afar would like him to stay. We will soon find out what those inside the club see in him I guess. Pretty sure he will be left in limbo whilst Sammy yet again hunts high and low for a ruck. Sammy though has to keep in mind though that supporters only want to give up fringe players in return for a #1 ruck and that we have FA draft picks. Easy job isn’t it? 😂

Agree young Westy has the ability to make it. He needs to work with a Sports Psych as I am of the impression that he feels the pressure to be a superstar like his Dad Scott.
If he could let go of that and learn to just take the right option instead of the 'Hollywood ' type moves he would make the transition much quicker. And in time he can add more tricks just needs to do the basics at this point and could add some forward bite imo

Another concern I have with Lip's asking for a trade and it is highly likely Young will follow and then there is some concern Sweet may look elsewhere is we are losing players around the age of 22 years old.

Losing 3 or 4 players at the same age can be an issue going forward on the list and they may still have an upside which we also lose

Power knows what he’s doing, he’s proven that a few times.

If he sets his price at the second rounder, then he has room to move when we hopefully accept the Pies future third instead. I think most of us would be pretty comfortable with that.
You can't set a price and then ask for more later, so I think you're right. Let Sammy do his thing. He seems to really know his stuff.
