With English it comes down to how the Club views him going forward.

If they see him as Number 1 Ruck then they will want to keep him for sure as they are difficult to get.

If they see him as a forward/ 2nd ruck and he will be a real weapon and one of the best at it then keep him for sure.

If they see him as a forward/ 2nr ruck but we can work around him with say Sweet and a different forward line set up then the club may entertain trading him for a 1st ruck now and maybe a key defender.

Switched it on yesterday heard some woman talking about making football gooder and switched off
I'm fairly sure you don't care ( ), but that's Toyota's thing this year, ties in ith the Bontempelli ads.

I’d love to know how English sees himself.

Fairly certain by now the club do not view him as a number 1 ruck, few comments by coaches over this year + what we're looking for this trade period, that has come pretty clear they expect him to be a number 2/forward as opposed to clear number 1.

Sadly it's a reflection on where we are as a society when we have ads that mention 'besterest' and 'gooder' in the middle of sports betting ads.

Teach your kids well, parents.

Anyway, who is the next ruck option?

Apparently Hawks have all their 26 and overs on the market and keen to move a few on. No-one is much interested and Sam Mitchell is ppersonally ringing around to drum something up How utterly demoralising if true.

Haha, where’s that been reported?

The last Hawks Dynasty was built when they used the same scorched earth policy. Traded Hay, Croad, etc. They got Hodge and Mitchell IIRC

I was about to post exactly the same thing. The "clean-out of older players" strategy was invented by Hawthorn...... successfully.

Note: "all 26+s on the trade table" doesn't mean they will all go. It just means anyone is available for the right price. They would end up losing 2 or 3 of 7 or 8 players. There would still be plenty left over to set standards. I personally think they will make it work.

Ok I’m all up to date now.
we will take Ceglar or Cox or Ladhams. I’d assume we’d take Hickey. Even seen, apart from my tongue in cheek comment, Meek being acceptable.
I then see that English and Sweet no good as #1 rucks.
Both our 2 are young in terms of ruckman.Meek and Ladhams young also. Ceglar and Kickey at a similar age were nowhere near see as #1 rucks. It’s hard being patient but our 2 could still be damn decent. We need to retain both and if we can top up a year or 2 with another 1-2 rucks per period whilst these guys get stronger. In 3-4 years we could be the envy of most clubs.
There are to many Jackson’s or Kruzers that come though and are up to it

Croad was 21 when they traded him out. And they traded a 20 year old future AA full back in McPharlin in that deal, too.

Hay was traded years later, which we found out later, was more due to them knowing he had severe mental health issues - that trade got them Max Bailey (43 games).

In the early part of that rebuild, their older heads like Crawford, Holland, Dixon, Harford plus a few others we're kept on. IMO this "willing to let go of anyone above 26" policy would be the equivalent of willingly putting those kinds of guys on the market - which wouldn't have necessarily worked out well.
