Not sure about that. In 2-3 years some of our players will be past their best. Treloar, Libba, Bruce, Keath etc.
Naughton and Baz are already gun players; not sure they have that much growth left in them. JUH and Darcy could be nothing. Tim having more strength in the ruck is a pipe dream.
My suspicion is that we have been in the peak Bevo years since we recruited Keath and Bruce. I don't think we will be better off in two to three years. I think now is the time.
I think keath will age well. I get your point but. If the draft experts are right re JUH being a generational talent and Darcy being a freak then you never know. JUH is doing all the right things by shadowing bont and naughton. Think next year he kicks 40+

Adding guys like Marra and Darcy should ensure our successful period is maintained, but I agree with Scrag, our time is now which makes the GF loss hard to cop.

But Sweet is now on the main list, so is Gardiner and Smith, also one of Scott or McNeil. Sorry I might have missed the original post, so apologies if I am stating the obvious.
Where's all of this coming from? Only Roarke has been confirmed as an upgrade AFAIK.

Sweet has a new 2 year deal but next year is his fourth year so he could theoretically stay on the rookie list until the end of 2022 and then get upgraded (unless you can't split a contract across 2 different lists?)

Similar for Gardner, and there's been no word on upgrading Scott or McNeil as far as I know.

AFL 2022 free agents: Who will command the most money and attention next season?
Weeks after contending for the premiership, Western Bulldogs will have to turn their attention to re-signing some of their biggest names. Can they fit everyone in?

3. Jackson Macrae, 27 (Western Bulldogs), midfielder
Status: Unrestricted FA

Doesn’t attract the same fanfare as Marcus Bontempelli, but if the Bulldogs’ skipper is Batman then Jackson Macrae is Robin. The consistent midfielder set a league record in 2021, racking up the most disposals ever recorded in a season. Won his third straight All-Australian jacket and will command more than $700,000 a year on his next deal in that packed midfield unit, which will try to go one better in 2022. Hell will freeze over if he ever leaves the kennel, but he commands respect.

Bulldog ball magnet Jack Macrae deserves a big pay packet. Picture: Michael Klein

10. Caleb Daniel, 25 (Western Bulldogs), defender
Status: Restricted FA

Master creator off halfback has some of the best foot skills in the game for a man who, in his draft year, was written off for being too short. Certainly, the script has flipped in his free agency year, as there would be plenty of suitors, but the reality is the Dogs are in the midst of another premiership window. The question for list boss Sam Power is, how does he fit the stars all under the cap?

12. Bailey Dale, 25 (Western Bulldogs), defender
Status: Unrestricted FA

The playmaking defender was a revelation this season and one of the most improved players in the competition, earning All-Australian honours. But with that increased recognition comes a bigger pay cheque. Dale’s will go up.

15. Jason Johannisen, 28 (Western Bulldogs), utility
Status: Unrestricted FA

Was redeployed as a speedy pressure forward but there remains strong competition for spots at the kennel. Luke Beveridge will throw the team around again in 2022 and while Johannisen secured a healthy contract on the back of his 2016 season, the big dollars won’t be there this time.

Was wondering how the * Macrae could possibly be unrestricted (usually means you're outside the top 25% of salaries), then realised it's because he'll have been with us 10 years. Time flies..

Not sure where to post this.

Dogs have lost Ash Hansen and Steven King. No word of who their replacements are. Rumour that Barry Hall is coming in (once he finishes that SAS show on CH 7?) as a specialist forwards coach to look after Naughton, JUH and Darcy?

Anyone know of anything? Getting a bit antsy with no word about potential replacements yet.

Where’d ya hear that? Would absolutely love Baz. The bloke oozed forward craft, brilliant with his leading patterns. If just a touch of his aggression rubbed off on Schache and a touch of his set shot routine rubbed off on a naughty we’d be laughing 😂

I highly doubt this is true though, seems he’s happy riding his reality Tv and boxing “career” money at the moment. Plus clubs aren’t really putting specialist coaches on right now due to soft Cap, unless he was taking over the whole forward line but I think if he had his way he’d probably just clear out the fifty and leave Naughty one out

The Barry Hall stuff is bullshit. I don't think we will appoint anyone to replace Hansen or King. Their roles will just be absorbed by whomever we still have.

You think we’re going to go into the season less two senior assistants? Yeah nah, their roles aren’t just absorbable by Bev and a couple of development coaches 😂

If Barry is coming in to help with that, that would make me very happy. Could do a lot with Naughts and JUH with the positioning and ability to get off an opponent.

I think what was trying to be said was that we might promote from within, such as Travis Varcoe or Stewart Edge becoming senior assistants.

Not a lot of experience there though. We are up against teams who have ex senior coaches as their assistants. We were definitely out coached in the GF.

Agree some experience wouldn't go astray, but who is out there atm? Buckley probably the standout, wonder if we've even enquired down that path, or even if we had/did, would he be interested?

Most other recently departed senior coaches seem to be involved at other clubs - Pyke, Richardson, Teague, Leppitsch, Knights, Bolton plus the next level of assistants viewed as possible future senior coaches - Burns, Bruce, Hansen, King, Harvey, Boyd, Corey, Lappin, Schofield, Montgomery, Enright, Cox, (and Mark Williams) are all tied to other clubs too.

Will be interesting to see who we appoint. Barker is still out there (lots of detractors, but also supporters) as is Scarlett, but can't see him coming back to WO. Any other up-and-comers with a rapidly accelerating CV? Or maybe a couple of retirees from last year or this year?

Morris already being at the club in a commercial role and previous an assistant coach, makes sense for him to step in as defensive coach and Smith senior assistant.

And probably someone like Maple steps as an assistant again for a year.

How were we out coached? We were 3 goals up half way through the 3rd and didn't do some basic things and then the fatigue of the finals series kicked in
