Will have a new coaching group to work that out if we get himWhat a waste it would be if Croft is a potential McKay or Curnow, and we play him in defence.
Is Naughton really worth it as a forward?

We might never know. But if we have a change of coach the role that Naughton is given will be fascinating to watch.Imagine how good Naughton be by now he had been left as an intercepting defender. Think Darcy Moore/Alex Rance/ Jeremy Howe.
Time will tell, my opinion is that playing Naughton forward will be seen as one of the great wastes of talent ever. He hasn’t been taught forward craft and he came from a long way back. He leads backwards and flies against his teammates. Watch his game against Sam Taylor - he had no idea how to counter him.
Compare him to Jamarra, who has overtaken him already. Jamarra has been taught how lead and gets to better spots. Croft I’m guessing will develop similarly.
If Bevo plays Croft as a defender and Naughton as a forward he asking asking a lot of both.
If he becomes our third choice key forward, that may convince him.We might never know. But if we have a change of coach the role that Naughton is given will be fascinating to watch.
My view is we have to persist with him as a forward for now. However we all know of good examples of top KPFs making a successful move to defence later in their careers - Chris Grant is the one that always comes to mind first. So it's possible. Persuading Naughton that it's the right move will be the hardest part. He now believes he's a forward and has invested years of his career to become a consistent 40+ goal KPF. How do you convince him otherwise?
If goals are the measure (and also GAs and pressure acts) he's still quite comfortably our best.If he becomes our third choice key forward, that may convince him.
Indications are that Jamarra, Darcy and Croft all could be elite KPFs. Is he that good?
Agree. I think Marra may overtake him at some point but he hasn't done so yet despite a few brilliant games.I think its a bit premature to suggest Jamarra has gone passed Naughton. He's tracking nicely but he's not a 45-50 goal a year forward yet.... it's also really counting our chickens to suggest Naughton could be our third best tall forward any time soon
People in here have been losing their minds over Gardner/Keath/Bruce having to kick the ball from defence.Imagine how good Naughton be by now he had been left as an intercepting defender. Think Darcy Moore/Alex Rance/ Jeremy Howe.

I completely agree with this. His best position is CHF. He would kill all ball movement as a chbPeople in here have been losing their minds over Gardner/Keath/Bruce having to kick the ball from defence.
Clearly Naughton is a better overall player but disposal wise - not someone I want to have the ball on the last line

Marra won't have overtaken Naughton until the opposition start putting their best defender on him.Imagine how good Naughton be by now he had been left as an intercepting defender. Think Darcy Moore/Alex Rance/ Jeremy Howe.

I would, but we've all but flagged were targeting mids at the draft.Naughton is a forward.
I use to think about putting him in our back half BUT he just isn’t suited to that position.
Sure he can intercept and contested mark better than most. He has for the last few years played forward and will have no idea about what to do in defence. Now the switch has been made, he must be kept forward.
In future we are going to have JOD at CHB until Busslinger is ready for true CHB and then he can move to FB. Busslinger will start as an intercept defender and become a CHB in time.
We do need another KPD/Intercept defender down back. Ideally we draft one this year, as there will be great options available to us. IF not, then we will need to rely on the JOD & Buss combo with an interceptor added at a later date.
The tall forward line up will start becoming more crowded with options in a few years but we are still better off keeping who we have and having competition drive them to be excellent. Then allow 1 or more to leave IF they want a huge pay day.
This year I see us taking a KPD and Croft with our earliest picks and next year look at multiple midfielders. Next year is a midfielder heavy draft and there will be few good options available at our picks.

This draft seems light for mids and next year looks good for mids, but that's the signal.
I still really like Ollie Murphy as a KPD
O'Sullivan will go before him for sure, he's quality and more developed but may not last to us unless we trade way up.I prefer O’Sullivan to Murphy but would love either.
Lual is the other midfielder I like who should be available late in the first round.
Can go into next years deficitWhat points are you matching Croft with?
you can come back into the draft after someone matches .. this is our opportunity to gain on ballers to go with our A grade forwardsWe’d be using whatever we’ve got after McKercher to match Croft.
It’s a shame about the age difference because a KPD trio of Jones / JOD / Buss would project really well if the young boys develop. A Jones type would be the ideal partnerIn future we are going to have JOD at CHB until Busslinger is ready for true CHB and then he can move to FB.
