The wings are now the big clear hole on our list moving into 2023.

I think we missed the boat on Acres given what he cost draft wise. I don't think his salary demands were unreasonable either.

Yeah missing out on Acres in the trade period was a bad fumble because he was fairly cheap and a solid wing. That's literally the only complaint I have really.

Can definitely see Bedendo making one wing his own and Williams the other.

Bedendo will in time 100%, kids a gem. Not sure if he’s ready this year yet but who knows after a big preseason.

I tend to agree on Williams too, just needs to build the tank but he’s pretty experienced now no real excuses next year. At his best he can be a weapon there but just off the back of last year it’s really hard to place him.

I would love a Hunter type who could kick though, just for a safe know-what-you get wing option who runs all day. Hollands would have been great in that regard. Then on the other wing we could experiment a little more with a Bedendo type.

For next year I’d suggest Baz/Adzy still spend a lot of time running through one wing. So it’s not all bad, just no more battler types like VDM, Hannan, Robbie or Baker pls it’s an important position, let’s respect it a little more than we have

Bedendo should have gotten a longer run in my opinion. Played two top four teams away in his two games. Could have not gotten a more tougher initiation than that. Would have liked to see how he plays at Marvel. Definitely one of the players to have an eye on in the preseason.

OK, so we've drafted / traded to fix our KPD and KPFs issues which were our major priorities. Now we need to focus again on our ageing midfield.

Dunkley has gone, Libba and Treloar are 30 when the season starts,, Macrae is 28, Bont 27. Baz can move in there, maybe West as well but we need to start drafting grunt and speed in the middle because we could find ourselves in a big hole in the middle of the ground soon if we don't.

Got 2 x 1st rounders and 1 x 2nd rounder to address that. Pretty good luxury

Solid use of our 2023 draft hand. Would be happy with two mids with our two first rounders.

First and 2nd rounder usually gets you a really good mid too in a trade.

Wonder if there’s any particularly tempting free agents or OOC players to target next year? Still need to address the wings and another developing key defender too

Bedendo is a gun in the making. Should absolutely be looking to develop him on the wing. See him as a very handy utility type. could play wing, Flanks, 3rd tall forward if needed. Has X factor.

Everyone loves a developing ruck…
besides us it seems.

We must see Darcy as a ruck/forward long term and also must be very confident English isn’t going anywhere.

It's just really hard to develop too many rucks on the list at once. English and Lobb will play at AFL level, and I imagine Sweet and Darcy (at least for a chunk of the year, he could find himself playing KPD at AFL level) will share ruck duties at VFL level. You add another raw player who needs development in and it's hard to give the three of them enough time in their best role to flourish and grow.

English/Lobb/Sweet/Darcy is about right IMO. I'd be surprised if Sweet doesn't leave at the end of next season, so that's the time to bring in someone new.

Darcy is apparently 211 already. Kinda no choice but to be at least part time ruck.

Who were the names we were looking at pre draft? I remember a couple of SA kids
You mean the draft?

Clarke was one.. and we got him.

Olli Hotton was another, who ended up at the Saints ... Ollie Hollands and Lachie Cowen ended up at Carltank

None of those are from SA though

According to DraftGuru, as of the conclusion of the rookie draft, we have the second oldest list on average for next year. Geelong is the oldest at 25.48 years, then us at 25.36, then Richmond a way back at 25.13. We're only the fifth most experienced list on average though.

Surely just throw the bloody house at Ben McKay next year, Norf will get a top 3 pick so won’t match. Then use our first rounders on the two best mids available.

Win all the games for the next 7 years, literally all of em

I think North would match any contact we could throw at McKay even for pick #2. You could possibly manipulate the system and have them not match with a pre-agreed further trade heavily in their favour (e.g. a 1st round pick for Jacob Edwards).
