Not arguing that, I said it was shonky. My point was that you made it sound as if North weren’t entitled to the other three picks, as though they getting special favours.
Well McKay is not worth pick 3 in compensation neither I find that laughable

And I addressed that too, point the finger at the AFL’s mystery formula.

Of course it’d suck to lose Buku but that would be true regardless of what happens with O’Brien.

I thought it sucked that we lost Josh Dunkley last year and went into this year with Robbie McComb on the list but I just think that goes without saying 🤷‍♂️.
Sorry your highness I’ll be sure to check with you first before future posts to make sure you think they’re worth posting xx

Oh yeah I thought we'd have a nibble last year but they re-signed him.

He's OOC this year isn't he?
Think he signed a two year deal so would have one year left. Saints are looking at having a decent change over this off season so most would be gettable and doubt it'd be more then a 3rd rounder.

What’s the story with him then, why wasn’t he already eligible for their access?
AFL was concerned with his Aboriginal background and wanted to double-check some things

Which looks, as a white-passing Aboriginal person. Like I get it but always really annoyed at that

So AFL delayed North allowing to place him on the eligibility list which was only cleared up last month.

Yep, so they can't match a bid for him until after pick 40 or whatever it is.

"just one more top 10 midfielder will be the difference, right? maybe two if we take his mate McKercher. just two more top 10 midfielders will fix us"
Atleast McKercher is different to what they already have but surely they're planning on taking more High end talls other then just Curtin.

Maybe a controversial opinion, but if his aboriginality is unclear, why exactly is he in the NGA to begin with? Isn't the whole point of having indigenous academies is to have a development pathway for disadvantaged kids? Sounds a lot like a "oh cool he qualifies, lets take advantage of that" instead of a "lets provide opportunities to this kid to ensure he has the same chances as everyone else".

I'd be surprised if that's really all there was to it with Sanders

When he joined he got the all clear back when he was 13

Unsure what happened over the years as I don't have full inside knowledge of the paperwork sadly

Edit: Forgot to add this before I left from.work

Clubs indigenous welfare officers overlook that side of NGA
So they speak to the players and community to ensure everything is all correct

He's been on a First Nations scholarship and played for the Flying Boomerangs since u14s. He's Indigenous. I assume the AFL wanted a specific certificate of Aboriginality that wasn't required before.

Like everything it's open to rorting and abuse. That's the problem when you have programs such as the NGA and the northern academies. Be better if they didn't exist.

That’s just even more confusing then - why on earth was it ever questioned if all the other AFL programs are happy for him to participate?

My gripe with this matter isn’t really targeted at Sanders mind you. There’s many others who have absolutely no business being in academies while Sanders very well might (Blakey the most egregious there’s ever been, though that was the Northern academies)

Would just much rather see spots allocated on a needs basis. I’ve used the example before, but someone with an experience like Jamie Cripps growing up in Northampton would have more compelling argument for being in the Eagles academy than some random inner city kid who happens to have aboriginal ancestry or was born overseas. It takes resources away from those who actually need it.

Though I have no idea whether that specifically applies to Sanders because I don’t know his background. The whole situation is just baffling
