I'm just guessing here but wouldn't suprise me to see both Bedendo and Duryea rookie listed.
Clubs are trying to get the afl to allow them to move players across the two lists without the need to delist first.
Shocked they changed the ruling back after covid
Make sense to auto allocate

Raak was never any good can’t believe there’s people melting that he didnt get another season 😂

Hearing that Sweet is going to stay which I didn’t see happening.. Crozier wants out too I’m lead to believe whether or not anyone wants him is another thing

Hope what your hearing reg Sweet transpires

I would be more shocked if he stayed than went.

Last I heard he was a certainty to leave

Wild for Sweet to stay, good for us but can’t be a good career move for him

Actually not with this one.

He was our best defender in the VFL at the beginning of the year, did a job at AFL level then got injured.

His body didn't hold up.

Anywho, we must have someone lined up.

Shocked to not see Roarke in the list.
There will be more to come imo. These are the initial ones.

We must keep Sweet! I’m convinced we would be better off with sweet and English than Sweet and Lobb. Instantly brings mongrel into the team, which we badly need, and releases English around the ground.

It doesn’t release English round the ground. Why does this always thrown about.

If Sweet takes English’s spot, he’s confined to a lead up/inside 50 forward role. Everything English does well around the ground is on the back of him playing RUCK without a direct 1v1 opponent.

It's weird who posters get attached too in here* Raak was always going to be in the firing line, because he's a typical tweener. Not big enough for a key position and not mobile enough to play as a flanker where you need to be able to rotate through the middle or push up high. He also faced the not inconsiderable problem of having 3 established, one developing and one soon to be drafted tall forwards on the list.

*So says Bodendo fanboy.

Like McComb, or anybody else that gets to pull on the glorious tricolours. Im glad that he got the reward for all of the hard work that it takes to get a chance to play at the highest level. It's unfortunate that Raak could take the next step and make his debut, but list management is a brutal dream killing game. I wish McComb, Raak and O'brien nothing but the best with whatever comes next for them.

If Sweet stays, its a pretty good indication of his standing in the game and whether or not other teams think his VFL dominance will translate to the AFL.

It's not really a surprise about Crozier as he still has more football in him. It's just that hes surplus to requirements in a side that sooner or later need to pull the trigger and see what Cleary or perhaps Gallagher has to offer. I think if he moves elsewhere he'll end up in much the same position. In limbo between the two footballing worlds.

IF Sweet is staying, then is Lobb or English going?
Not really. It means that he's happy to have a contract where he can stay in the system.

Ive maintained that he's essentially Tom Campbell mkII. Who unless something changed today is somebody still on St.Kildas list who is still plying his trade providing break glass cover and being used to develop younger rucks on their list whilst playing in the VFL.

Cam Fleeton is out of contract at the Giants this year. I reckon he'd come very cheap, if not basically free. Averaged 23 disposals, 8.6 intercepts and 8.1 marks in the VFL this year, and is Victorian.

The midseason draft places the players on the rookie list, that I'm certain of (so Poulter will have been a rookie). It's weird that it works that way tbh

The rookie upgrades just happen, no need to use actual picks in the draft anymore

The rest I'm unsure tbh. So confusing, and the AFL doesn't even attempt to provide clarity around it
Fairly sure our 2023 mix is as below, prior to any official list lodgements including retirees/delistings:
  • Main List: 36
  • Cat A: 6 (Roarke, McNeil, Scott, McComb, Baker, Poulter)
  • Cat B: 2 (O'Donnell, Raak)

I'm confident that Khamis and Sweet were upgraded at the end of last year (both spent the current maximum 4 years on the rookie list from 2019-2022), they couldn't have stayed rookies without being delisted and redrafted as what happened to Roarke a couple of times.

With the departures of Bruce, Hannan, McComb, O'Brien and Raak we now have 33 Main List, 5 Cat A rookies and 1 Cat B rookie. Means we can take between 3-5 main list players, 0-1 Cat A rookies and 0-1 Cat B rookies (up to a total of 44 on the list) with any further list changes obviously adding to that..

I think you’ve nailed it actually, with the likes of Baker, Roarke, Scott, Poulter still on the rookie list.

That changes quite a bit and leaves us with plenty of list space on the main list. Hopefully we can get a few decent backend picks in after Croft.

Not a fan of overseas teams.....
Not arguing that, I said it was shonky. My point was that you made it sound as if North weren’t entitled to the other three picks, as though they getting special favours.
Well a pick 3 for a player who is as over rated as Ben and who even then never is on the field much, is high way robbery no matter if that's what the system is regarding what some other club over pays for him.

So if we trade up to Gold Coast obtain pick 4 and Hawthorn give us pick 3 for Bailey Smith.
I'm Dreaming 3 and 4 it's a game changer we're back in premiership window.

With TOB, Bruce & Raak gone, probably Croft in that leaves us with the following talls for next year.

AFL:
Naughty, Marra, Lobb
Jones, JOD, Keath

VFL:
Darcy, Croft, Buku?
Gardner, Buss

Actually looking pretty light on there, makes me think Buku might be staying considering we cut TOB & especially Raak. Either way you would think we need to be targeting at least one more tall through the draft/trade period, maybe the Footscray lad?

I don’t think it’s that light we have plenty of forward depth or could run with 2 talls if need be through injuries.

As for down back assuming Buss takes a step forward through the off season we have 5 viable options down back that can play if we need. Obviously some have been poor at times but can fill a hole for a week or two. Plus we have the option to go with 2 talls at times. I would look to add a developing tall back but that’s it. Baker smith is one id look at probably as a rookie.

Good list changes so far.

McComb and TOB weren’t making us better or filling a need.

Raak could have gotten another year but he was never getting a game in the role he was playing and as a back Cleary had shown a lot more.
