Far out - we have no idea what JUH is going through - so how about we give him the benefit of the doubt and our support.

People get sick, some of them mentally, if it is physical we feel bad for them, things happen in families that cause people distress - none of which are any of our business.

Yes he is a star player but he is also person. I want our club to be one that supports people first. I hope you get better mate.
Well said mate

The club see Crossley more as a third tall replacement for Marra than a ruck at this stage

An interesting perspective…raised my eyebrows a bit……I would suggest that is not the case. Ruck backup and a good option to support our VFL team in the ruck would be the most logical reason. Great backup option, and would really help the VFL team and the developing mids.

Happy for Crossley, shattered for Brew. Hopefully he knows we'll look at him mid-year
If JJ's body doesn't get up after this latest setback, I'm hoping he makes that decision to retire before the Mid year draft.
Off the info that has been shared on BF about Brew in the pre-season, he sounds like a good fit for the dogs.

This height measurement fails the eye test completely. In VFL games and in pre-season training Smith is about the same height as Gardner and O'Donnell (both 197 cm). I think the Western Bulldogs website listing is purely an ambit claim!
Absolutely agree he looks to 6.5 tops.

Taking Crossley over Brew is a very sensible decision.

I don’t think it’s about “toughening” English up - he is who he is. And our current coach believes that’s fine so he will always be first choice. We tried with Tim, he had Stef Martin and Sweet, worked with Lade, the player we’ve seen is the one we will be getting.

It’s just a lot smarter a choice than Brew from a list balance/break glass perspective. It also helps out the vfl guys a lot, takes pressure off a young Smith, lets Gardner act as cover in the backline, and most importantly keeps Darcy and Lobb where we need them if Tim goes down - particularly in the absence of JUH and Jones. Those two absences are really probably what caused the late pivot away from Brew and to Crossley.

Signing with Footscray would be wise for Brew, we have a pretty good strike rate of guys getting picked up mid season I would think. Just don’t see a world where it makes sense for us to be the team to select him. Or his training with us may have given him some exposure and he gets picked up by someone else soon. Unlucky for him but things can change quick.

He can't sign for Footscray he has already signed for Werribee

Its not necessarily about toughning up Tim, but if he can make Tim even 5% more competitive and less susceptible to giving up a run of hit outs to advantage it can only benefit the team.

What do people think of the Ken Hinkley situation? Is he worth chasing to replace Bevo? He does regularly get Port into top 4.

Difference is, Beveridge has shown he can get to the big dance. Hinkley, not so much. Port supporters have wanted him gone for a long time and even hoped they'd lose games if that helped.

So probably not.

I don't think Ken will get another senior coaching gig. I can see him doing the director of coaching gig at a few clubs over a few years before moving on to something else.
