Good luck to Buku. Worst case scenario, he gets a nice salary bump to move over, gets more regular AFL games and the match payments that come with that. AFL is a short career; make hay while the sun is shining.
Generally by the second or third contract and especially if players are being headhunted by other clubs, they actually lose matchies and instead move to a salary. I’d hope Bukes moves to that structure to guarantee his cash.

His managers comments alone probably ensured Bevo won't play him again, he really hates that stuff.
I can't remember if this was Lobb or Bevo relaying it, but the story went along the lines of;

When the article about Lobb wanting out of the Dogs landed in April (maybe May?) last year, the next day Lobb walked into his office sheepishly, thinking he was about to get torn a new one, and Bevo said not to worry about it, he knows how the industry works, and told him to just focus on his footy.

If he was genuinely pissed off/wanted to punish him, the Lobb redemption arc that we've been lucky enough to witness probably doesn't happen.

Whereas the touring of other clubs' facilities mid-year, I think he really does hate. There was a game last year around that time when Garcia was dropped which seemed utterly ridiculous (equivalent would be if we were to see him dropped tomorrow night), and to this day he still seems harshly treated compared to others.

You would want to be 100% sure of the info - we've seen how indistinguishable AI is from reality, imagine how harshly a player would be treated at the selection table by Bevo if it looked like they were touring facilities on a match night, even having the gall to test the other club's tops and shorts.

I think buku out and jack Silvagni in as a free agent is very good list management from the dogs if that’s how it ends up playing out.

Jack for free (no picks) and buku for a 3rd or pick upgrade is nice work

I personally think we could get a second rounder for Khamis. He is contracted.
Agreed - I wouldn't be trading him for anything less than a second rounder. He's played nearly twice the games as Leek Aleer in the last 2 seasons and I'm fairly certain the Saints will be offering at least a second round pick for him - and Aleer isn't contracted.

Khamis can also play at either end. He’ll be a real asset for whoever gets him. An early Second rounder has to be the price tag.

I tend to agree. It needs to be a pick around 30-35 which will be pushed back into the late 40’s anyway.

There’s no real benefit to letting him go unless the club wants to do him a favour and help him get to where he wants to go.

Why would a club like Essendon want to draft fringe mid- 20 s types?

Khamis would actually be of more help to a club like us.
Why not stick to their winning strategy of the past 20 years?

The Western Bulldogs are growing in confidence they could land Blues hybrid Jack Silvagni, despite Collingwood remaining the favourites.

We were kissed on the D when we got a 2nd from Norf for Caleb Daniel, we’re not getting one for Buku. He’s a mid 20s fringe player leaving for playing time, we’ll get a late pick or pick upgrade. We paid a future 4th for Taylor Duryea, think along those lines.

Difference being Buku is contracted.

And with so much uncertainty with JUH, I’d be expecting the club to secure overs for Buku.

Serious question. When did Jack Silvagni become anything but the middling failson he's always been.
Seems like a Jackson Trengove move to me. But at least he had a best and fairest to his name.
Collingwood are welcome to him.

This year.

They settled back and he was really good. I think he would definitely improve our defense if he can stay on the park.

I’m not sure you’ll be swayed from your views, which given how inconsistent Jack has been over his career is fair enough, but genuinely he showed a lot down back this year.

I don’t think he’s the style of defender we need necessarily as I think he’s a younger Rory Lobb, but if a team can get him playing 20+ games down back it wouldn’t shock me if he were All Australian in 2026.

Believe Caleb still had 2025 left on his deal when we traded him. Amazing how that worked out for us and Caelb, he got another 3 years on his existing deal and we got a 2nd rounder.

Re: Buku you never know, it just takes one silly team to overpay. The Dees stupidly gave their 2nd rounder for Shane McAdam who was 28 at the time two years ago.
