2 year contract doesn’t give great faith.

Saints need longer than that to sort their list out around him. Not great for them if he leaves after the 2 years.

Hope he stays long term though.

Wow, NWM staying ast St K. 2 yr contract. Didn't see that coming.

I don’t think people grasp how significant it would have been if he joined the Crows. That trade would have been competition altering. With the core they already have and the natural growth still ahead of them, adding him would have elevated crows into a side capable of dominating ala the Hawks of early 2010's. From dogs perspective, it’s a major positive for us.

We're definitely in part of the list build where we can top up.

Out under 23's include Darcy, Freijah, Davidson, JOD, Busslinger, Sanders, Croft, Hynes, Dolan, Jacques & Sellwood which is a pretty bloody good group of players to carry us into the future. I'm confident in the long term AFL futures of all of them.
I'm not sure that we'd be calling players who are yet to actually play in an AFL game a reason for having a good young group of players.

Whether or not we have a good young group of players is all relative, and every team has some players.

Every team has a group of young players yet to play in an AFL game.

Darcy and Freijah yes but beyond that we probably don't have a top-end list of young players, which is to be expected given good teams get lower draft picks over the last 5 years.

Time to go all out to shake a defender or two loose them Dogs. Gun lockdown KPD & a small/medium defender are both needs

Don’t plan to just keep hitting the draft when we desperately need to top up and not blow any more chances when the window is wide open.

It has two sides. He may be saying to the Saints: you've got two years to get yourself sorted. If you do I'm happy to look at a long term extension. If you don't ... I'm out of here.

Either way it's a pleasing outcome for this year.

It is a pleasing outcome.

Their list is miles off though.

They must be confident in him re-signing long term otherwise it’s going to be grim in 2 years.

Port offered 12 years @ $2.5m. Yikes. Butters must be out the door if they’re throwing up numbers like that.
No way, surely not. That’s outrageous coin. He’s an elite player but I don’t think there is a player in the comp worth close to that, including him. There are many players only one rung down from him earning a third that coin. I’d rather two absolutely elite players earning half that.

I feel like the media just keep on throwing out more and more outrageous figures and we just take them as gospel

Ok, time to get Wilkie, shake him loose. Hearing player unrest at Saints from a mate (I know, I’ve got a sainter
Mate close to their footy dept). Ignore what RTB is saying. The unrest is real.

With the juh stuff going on, theres talk amongst a lot of clubs re: drafting indigenous players because of the high risk with them. Clubs are seriously starting to second guess drafting them

Wasn’t that exactly what Matt Rendell said and got ostracised? For what it’s worth I believe it to be true.
If you have two equally talented players, one being a lad from a stable local family background and one an indigenous lad. Which one is the safer pick up? Most of the indigenous lads get homesick, it’s a huge change to their lives to come into an almost military like AFL club.
I love indigenous players but it’s a much bigger risk to recruit them.
