Curious with butters from a coin perspective?

He'd obviously be on a reasonable contract now but he'd be on an even better one if he:

A) re signed/ extended at Port or
B) asked for a trade and signed up to new bigger dollars.

Not sure of the point of staying still?

He genuinely wants the flexibility of being a free agent in a year?

Butters next contract won't be on less than 2 mil a year. NAS contract set the market rate for players of that calibre. We can't afford that when we have Bont, Darcy, Naughton, English, Richards et al

Maybe he's just a bloke with integrity honouring his contract?

Unusual these days but not impossible.

If Hawks and Cats can, we should be able to as well.
We need some salary cap creativity likd they find😆

It all depends on what’s motivating him to move - the money, a return home, or the chance to play finals and win flags. If it’s the latter two, he won’t necessarily be chasing $2m+.

Big $$$ or win flags, you can’t have both.
A side that can pay $2m/year isn’t playing finals.
A side that’s winning finals can’t pay you $2m/year.
What’s important to you?

You’re strongly underestimating the value of a Mission® sombrero for Zak & his extended family each.

Reckon he just knows there’s hardly any chance Port trade him while contracted and doesn’t want to go through all the whole saga for no result

He can achieve those things while also earning $2m a year.

I doubt the Cats have many high paid players other than Cameron and Holmes. Smith wouldn't be on much. Who's earning more than 1 mil a year at the Hawks?

Overpaying to keep or lure players is the quickest path to an unbalanced and disgruntled list that won’t be winning anything. The Saints will learn that the hard way once the sugar hit wears off. No genuine premiership contender is throwing $2m at anyone — and if they do, expect some salary-dump trades to follow.

Dusty won 3,
Naitanui (didn't play GF but was highly paid) McGovern
Lachie Neale
Nick Daicos
Agree on Geelong but Danger and Selwood weren't playing for peanuts

Trade English, goes to water in big games again and again.

Get Marshall.
I really feel English will become the ruck when he hits 29-30 years of age. He's just 1 of those I think will stand up closer to the end of his career. That said I think he needs to be chopped out more but since he doesn't want to be forward due to concussion fears he needs to rest in defence. Chop out with Lobb.
