The sting of a poor loss against Freo can make us want to throw the baby out of the bath water (I wonder where that saying comes from? Seems stupid but anyway).

Chasing a big KPD would be great if they are a clear best 22 like Barrass or Battle - that Hawks could get two was so annoying. We seem to be looking at players that are no better in VFL than Gards and Jones - this is clearly the best tall defence in the VFL. If we could find the right player like Ballard then absolutely but let’s not get another TOB.

Adelaide have shown a better way - they loaded up with 5 young KPD players with the attributes they need - and hold them from 18-23 when they become reliable

Borlaise 23 only 192 but elite in spoils

Butt 25 and 195 also elite in spoils

Keane 25 and 194

Murray 24 and 194

Worrell 24 and 195

We have:

JOD

Lobb, Gardner and Jones are all old and brought in. This should have been anticipated. 2 is not enough and one of them was even a left field.

Croft was a forward as a junior and we need a couple of them at 18 developing also and another ruck - Smith looks good but two rucks on list is crazy. This may mean we have more mids than others??

Get 2-3 promising KPD kids and do the hard work to develop them

And you can do both - Adelaide - their tall forwards are similar to ours. With star kids like Welsh can even get a game.

Our mediums look very good. JUH can’t be played on us but assuming he is lost to us - we still get Trelor, Weightman, Harmes and the natural development of stars like Croft and Sanders and then Dolan, Hynes and Jacques - that will be one of our best hauls ever. And hopefully of persistence with Arty will pay off - the kid lifts us and he showed on VFL just how brilliant he is. And our parts bin: Selwood, Walker looks good.

Wonder what will happen with Gags.

Draft four - hopefully including some defenders and a ruck and through the kitchen sink at one star KPD not average journeyman. Then we are back in finals

Or perhaps the misrendering of it to "throw the baby out OF the bathwater" makes it seem so. The original was to "throw the baby out WITH the bathwater".

The metaphor tells us that you can accidentally throw out something precious or of value (the baby) in your zeal to discarding what you don't want (the bathwater). Makes sense.

Seems to have originated in Germany in the 16th century.

Crossley is nothing more then a state league player Essendon needed a Ruckman and even overlooked him in the Mid - Season Draft

It’s “throw the baby out with the bath water”. In other words, don’t overdo it. I agree with you. In other words a knee-jerk reaction.

If he worked on his fitness and got his conditioning to AFL standard he’d be on a list in a second

There’s nothing wrong with being a dominant VFL player if that’s the career he wants but there’s an AFL list spot on offer if he puts the work in

Two concepts here. If Crossley worked hard yes he would be on an AFL list

We have a 19 year old not far behind him, close to as good already who does work hard

We need a mature KPD who can play next year though. JOD is fine but not yet a no 1 KPD, Buss a w years away, the other two are pups.

Crossley would be great if games were only 20 minutes long. He was gassed at 1/4 time at the start of the year. Not enough tank for AFL.

Smith will be ready to step in for a couple of games next year. Strong progress.

Just a FYI to all those who want to get rid of Tim English and bring in a big wrestling ruckman.

The ruck rules are being changed next year to suit more agile jumping ruckman. We won't be seeing any more wrestling between the ruckman before the ball is even thrown up.

Tim English would arguably be the biggest benefactor with these changes. Why would you want to get rid of an AA caliber ruckman right before the rules are changed to suit him more?

The so-called meeting was when Sammy P walked by and spotted him having a coffee all by himself.

I come across the same rumour. It was by Ricky Nixon on Mitch Robinson's podcast, so might as well have been a random facebook rumour.
