But did Wilkie get a bonus?Windhager going to the Dees
As someone who’s obviously a very big fan of Sanders. I’d do it.Would anyone consider Sanders for Wilkie? Saints would certainly listen to that conversation. I probably wouldn’t do it but if they added some extras, I’d keep talking.

Annable & Uwland both top 5 potentially. GCS in a really good spot this year
What are missing here. Is IMHO clearly the best player in the VFL. Hard and tough - General across HBF but everyone passed on him on the MSD?Like I said last week, Jackson Voss from Frankston is a no-brainer for a mature aged player to chase.
Not until the expansion clubs have won a couple of flags each.Yet another reason to abandon academies. All of them. They're a joke and yes, we have benefited greatly from FS, but that'll be tightened shortly all while the academies just keep rolling on.
Surely it's time for the leg up for the northern states to end, but this is the Dillon led AFL so they'll do stuff all.
I’d do it. Sanders won’t change the dial enough to put us in real contention in the next 2 - 3 years but Wilkie could be our missing piece. It’s overpaying but it might convince St Kilda to let him out. It’s a real chips in move and only works if the Saints have more monster money to pay Sanders as he’ll just wait for Tassie to come calling otherwise.Would anyone consider Sanders for Wilkie? Saints would certainly listen to that conversation. I probably wouldn’t do it but if they added some extras, I’d keep talking.
Saints might listen if we added in our first. MightWould anyone consider Sanders for Wilkie? Saints would certainly listen to that conversation. I probably wouldn’t do it but if they added some extras, I’d keep talking.
Not much, looks like the Saints are heavily into him. Great kick, strong body, hard-nosed, I would be flabbergasted if he is not on an AFL list in 2026. If no one has bid on him previously, does that make him eligible for the Saints to still take him under Father and Son?What are missing here. Is IMHO clearly the best player in the VFL. Would give them Sanders and sadly, Treloar.Would anyone consider Sanders for Wilkie? Saints would certainly listen to that conversation. I probably wouldn’t do it but if they added some extras, I’d keep talking.
Surely Marra would be make a better Key back than Young or Silvagni or Butts or others that are not gettable. After watching Smith play this year, I’ll be so disillusioned if Marra goes to another club and does well. Means we are poor in managing complex characters and needs to be looked at. Don’t know if that’s Bevo or Edge or Bains but it needs to be better.
With Libba and Treloar nearing the end of their careers, absolutely not.Would anyone consider Sanders for Wilkie? Saints would certainly listen to that conversation. I probably wouldn’t do it but if they added some extras, I’d keep talking.
Well Treloar didn’t play almost all year and Sanders wasn’t even picked for the final game. With Libba and Treloar nearing the end of their careers, absolutely not.
Would still have Bont, Richards, Libba, Freijah, Kennedy, perhaps small mid minutes for West/Weightman. And then perhaps a play for Butters leading into 2027.Well Treloar didn’t play almost all year and Sanders wasn’t even picked for the final game.
There is also no indication Sanders is going to be “the next Libba” like some people are hoping.
The most you could hope for is a Neale-type player, but I think it’s apparent he isn’t going to be like that.
We are our own worst enemy. You think new recruits want to play in Ballarat??? Yet people on here bang on about how good it is. They want big games, big exposure. Need to be an attractive club and that means a few home games at the MCG.It's the thing that does my head in when the subject turns to our defensive issues in the media and at times in here. Its as if we have been wilfully negligent when it comes to looking for KPD solutions.
It also ignores the fact that no matter how successful we are or how much we've improved our training facilities to a point where they are amongst the best in the competition. We continue to battle pre-conceived biases that are in built with people as to our clubs position in the games hierarchy. Its why Hawthorn, Collingwood and Geelongs in the Melbournes club orbit continue to hoover up the games elite FA talent when the become available.
Its why St.Kilda have been forced to go all in chasing FA talent and risk going into the next season with an explosive cigar in one hand and with a two-seven offsuit hand in the other.
Sanders is an inside mid who isn't great in other positions (yet).Well Treloar didn’t play almost all year and Sanders wasn’t even picked for the final game.

Given we chased Jordan and Peatling we do really seem to want one more mature versatile mid.Erasmus looks pretty good in the final last night, still don’t see him leaving Freo though.
If I see you grabbing Butts....Sanders is an inside mid who isn't great in other positions (yet).
I'm nowhere near writing him off.
I think we'd do better to grab Butts or Young, keep our players and our first round pick, rather than overpay for Wilkie. He's under contract and on the sight chance he does agree to leave the Saints they would ask for the world.
Keeping Dunkleybto his contract was a good move because if did the trade with essondon all the picks we got would’ve just been used up for Jammara. By keeping him we got a grand final appearance and a best and fairest player. We have been stung twice by Dunkley and Smith wanting out at end contract, Both, we knew where more than likely to request a trade at the end. The difference in value is immense trading in contract to out of contract, just wondering what our list would look like now if we traded a year earlier.
For example, I know we was very interested in Murphy Reid and we would have had our own pick available more than likely if we had done the Smith deal a year earlier.
