We are a middle tier club now, we've had some good game time-slots lately and can make a credible claim for more games at the G.

In my (now lengthy) time as a member and supporter, we've never been this well set up before.

I agree with all of what you've said Dimma. It's now time for us to start acting like a bigger club when it comes to getting a better deal from the AFL, including 2 or 3 MCG home games per season against the bigger clubs.

Problem is the fans don't turn up unless it's a pies or freo type game. Until we get better crowds we'll be mid. I know so many dogs fans that don't go to the games.

About 35,000 to the Easter Sunday Saints game, almost 36,000 v Hawthorn and 41,000 for Adelaide would suggest things are on the up.

Watched highlight packages of the kpd we are-supposedly talking to, noticed butts highlights against Darcy and he did nullify him. Think I would go after him to help out for our 1v1 big forward match up.

We really need a hard arse defender like Hardwick or Maynard. We have a hard arse mid fielder like Newcombe, Atkins and am I dare to say Dunkley in Libba but he is near the end. So, a defender and midfielder that would run through brick walls would be worth their weight in gold in desperate finals.

Round 1 Vs Collingwood @MCG, + return H&A fixture @MCG, rotating the home team for round 1 each season, should be #1 on our AFL fixture requests, every year.

Anzac Day/Easter might screw up that round 1 fixture occasionally, but we should try to really lock the Pies down as a double up at the G, it's the biggest crowd gold mine (and best finals-like atmosphere) we're gonna get.

Hopefully round 0 gets dumped, to give the above fixture a bit more weight.

Not sure who our other home MCG request would be (if we are afforded a second by the AFL). Richmond, Essendon and Carlton are all pretty bleh at the moment and would essentially guarantee it's not prime time. Might have to request Hawthorn, but in what should be a 50/50 toss up over the next few years, MCG gives them an advantage. But I guess we need to learn to beat them there in finals, anyway, so may as well bite the bullet. Otherwise requesting Geelong would be a lower crowd but would also lower the chances of an away game at Kardinia Park..

What is strange is why the saints recruit JOS and Aleer if they know Wilkie wants out as a result. The thing that makes sense if Wilke wanted out after paying NWM 2M a season, the saints knew this so went after the other two.

This... not every backman needs to be an offensive threat that gets 20p and 10 marks a game. sometimes you actually just need a pure defensive backman that will punch and nullify their opponent. bring the ball to ground and let our dominant mids take the ball away.

That's the rub - it's not so much Butts vs Wilkie, it's more Butts + (Dovaston / Greeves as a first round 2025 pick) vs Wilkie.

Wilkie is an awesome player but will cost an absolute packet being under contract.
