So who else would we be recruiting other than Wilkie? It seems like it’s Wilkie OR Young OR Burt’s, not AND. That backline needs more than one fix. I know we have some younger guys like Sellwood, but we still lacking another defender.

We don’t need multiple key defenders though. Any of them and a small/medium will be a start.

Wilkie is probably just a dream, so I feel we need to grab Young/Butts with both hands.

I'd be happy with just one tall. JoD is great when he doesn't have to take the no 1 key forward.

We've been linked to Budarick and Bond so at a guess we're chasing one small defender as well. Two new defenders.

I’d be happy with this.
Then hit the draft.
I’d also like us to hunt a state league key back as Jones is doneskie.
The only issue is that gun state league KPDs tend to get snapped up in the MSD. A few years ago you could mine the state leagues a bit easier.

Happy to hear any names but I'm not sure there is too much left out there.

Have you heard of this guy Ryin Guardiner I think it was?

Butters won't help the gaping whole we have . Wilkie will. $$ and picks for Wilkie. That's my opinion and we all know how good Butters is.
Sure, I agree Wilkie is a greater need but when you have the opportunity to attract a top 5 player in the comp to your club then you do whatever it takes to make it happen. So I guess the question is how would we get both done as pick 10 alone is unlikely to suffice for Wilkie

Pick 9 (currently) and an F2 will easily get it done despite the saints nuffies thinking Richards would want to play in front of an empty marval each week

Good info on the Trade Bell wrap SEN posted a bit earlier. Gabelich gets pretty reliable info from us. Unfortunately seems we might not be in the running for Tyler Young:

Callum Wilkie (St Kilda)

On the Bulldogs’ interest
“It tells us that they are making Cal Wilkie a clear trade priority.
“They need to sort their defensive issues out. They know Wilkie is a long shot given his contract status and St Kilda’s clear stance that he won’t be traded despite them landing Jack Silvagni as a free agent and getting the commitment from Leek Aleer.
“My understanding with the Dogs is they’re prepared to go higher than the $1.1 million per season across four years that they have on the table for Cal Wilkie.
“They weren’t prepared to go any higher with Silvagni given the durability question marks, but when it comes to Wilkie he doesn’t miss. He’s played 155 consecutive games and internally I’m told the (Dogs) players are thrilled with the club’s decision to target a player like Wilkie.
“The problem with that is they can’t wait for an answer forever, they need to be active in this market for a key defender. Steven May was briefly discussed internally but given he’s almost 34 I don’t think they’ll pursue him.
“No contact with Mitch McGovern or James Blanck. Tylar Young was considered months ago but there are bigger offers out there for him.
“Wilkie is the priority but they will pivot if they get a no from him.”

Sounds like we are right in the mix for Budarick, might just have the one year on the table from GC and multiple for us on more $.

Also it seems like we thought we were pretty confident on Erasmus, but him forcing his way into the team and locking in a spot to close the year swayed him to stay put and re-sign.

Doesn’t Budarick play forward for the Suns?
He's been forced into a defensive forward role this year because he's too good to stay out of the side but other small defenders have replaced him.
To the eyeball, he's far more natural behind the ball.

So from that - we don't have much of a plan B?

if Wilkie falls through which I’m assuming it will I’d be pretty flat if we don’t get either young or butts. We just need to pay up a decent contract. Time for us to use some of that war chest, Other clubs aren’t scared to offer overs

To add to this, he's more of a Duryea replacement than a JJ / Bramble replacement. Better as a lock down defender on smalls / mediums rather than a run and carry guy
