Or you can pay someone like Gardy peanuts and when you still have to use him it’s a disaster
Gards being on peanuts playing in the 2s is better then paying 700k a year for someone to do the same hence Macrae and Daniel are no longer with us

Not necessarily (for peanuts). Gards is one of the best KPDs in the VFL
Makes you wonder how Gards would go in a team with a more traditional/conventional game style than us, considering how solid and consistent he is at VFL level?
Could be superstar material in the right club?

Listening to NWM comments after the game sounds like he’s gone. If it’s to Port that could potentially leave the door ajar for a Butters move this year. How else are they going to find the currency? They don’t have a first this year.
If Gardner played for any other VFL team we would be desperate to draft him

Out of contract KPD players 2026
Borlase - Cant get a game anymore. Crows list is too tight down back and I believe he's being trialled as a 3rd tall. He showed a few good things last year when down back but probably too limited.
Butts - A bit on the outer with Keane & Murry. He's a solid defender but I don't think he's that athletic. Might be worth grabbing still.
Young - Back to the dogs? I don't see the improvement since he left.
Cox - Not certain he's a KPD. Also he may not play again with his concussions concerns.
Hayes - Did his ACL and unlikely to be traded at such a young age. He looked okay at senior level.
Ollie Murphy - Too young to be considered but he's Victorian so may decide to return home next year.
Kolodjashnij - Hasn't played all year I believe was injured for some of the year but now cant get a look in. Will be a solid option. 30 though so he's only got a couple of years left.
Caleb Graham - Been out of the senior side for a long time now. Might be a ok option and cheap.
Cooper Bell - Only drafted last year. Unlikely to want a trade.
Buckley - RFA in 2026 so would cost overs and GWS wont trade both him & Aleer.
Blanck - Gettable. Would want more opportunity next year. Is meant to be a solid 1v1 defender.
May - Just no.
Turner- Has become a good solid defender. Would have to trade overs though.
Corr - Not really a KPD so should avoid.
Pink - Would be no better than what dogs have atm.
Will Dawson - 2023 draftee with a year left. Unlikely to want to leave.
Aliir - Would he want to leave? Seems unlikely and unlikely port will use him as a trade as their best defender.
Jack Whitlock - Would have to be some serious home sickness for him to leave.
Xavier Walsh - Have no knowledge of him.
Gibcus - Would tigers trade him? Hasn't played a senior game even though he's been playing VFL for a month now.
Miller - Would be an ok pick up.
Broad - Too old and would want to retire as a tiger I bet.
Caminitti - Has stepped up at the saints but not sure he's an improvement on what Dogs have.
Maric - Eagles best KPD now so going to cost overs to bring him back to Victoria.

Caleb Graham has played some decent football but IIRC half of those games were a few years ago as a makeshift ruck when GCS had a ton of injuries.
