I'd be happy enough with either Tylar Young or Jordan Butts. Either of them play round 1 next year.

Then we have two small defenders to choose from (Bond/Budarick).

Take our first rounder to draft. Dovaston (small forward) or Greeves (midfielder) either be great additions to the club.

Perfect off season for me would be trade buku for a second rounder , trade that for butts, trade a future 3rd for Tylar young. Getting both of them would be huge for us

There's a consensus that this is a poor draft but there are later gems every year. I'm really bullish on last year's draft class. The year before, we got Freijah for a pick in the 40s and he goes top 10 if there was a redraft.

The worst draft in living memory was 2010 and we lucked out with Wallis and Libba, then two amazing rookies: JJ & Dahlhaus.

I'm keen on keeping our first rounder this year.

Having that many top talented players will draw other players
Finally they can use their warchest

But the only way they've been able to attract players is by overpaying them, they will be able to get keep doing that over 10 years as they won't have unlimited warchest.

I really don't get the Aleer hype. I think it shows how hard it is to find decent KPDs. I'd legit rather play Buks behind the ball over Aleer.
He looks amazingly good for about 5 minutes every game.

Its an interesting one. They also need to take 3 list spots to draft dont they ? If so they will need to either delist or trade out a lot of players. Have lost Webster and Cordy.

Think Dogs either try and poach Wilkie, who I think is an upgrade on Silvagni or maybe try and convince Aleer or outbid Saints

No need to think Wilkie is significantly better and more durable then Silvagni,

Aleer is shit and the offer the Saints have for him is massive overs

Id rather put games into JO'D, Busslinger, Sellwood or even Walker.

None of whom carry a $750k price tag and are as likely to have careers of substance as Aleer has.

We were sensible with our offer happy with that

i don’t hate this approach from the Saints.

They historically suck at drafting (though they did acquire Dalrymple last year to address this).

They have cap space and want to use it (spend it if you got it, Dogs).

They have NWM for 2 years and feel a sense of urgency to build a competitive team around him before he leaves.

It might backfire but they’re already in purgatory. They don’t have much to lose.

Saints are in purgatory because they keep doing this. It’s rinse and repeat.

They hit 2 drafts then top up so they literally never get out of that 6-12 range. They top up to make finals and then don’t have the talent to win a flag.

Surely you need to hit a minimum of 3-4 drafts bringing in at least 8 top 40 picks to build your core. Then when you are ready to take the step from 12-14 wins to top four you hit the trade period as hard as possible.

Taking Billings one pick before Bont, then Coffield and Clark in consecutive picks just before Naughton will do that.

Good on them for being bold though. They have to try something.

Our back 6 is just so much more settled with those two on the list. It would solve a fair few problems.

He can want out but if Ross decides he's going nowhere while contracted, he's going nowhere.

If we miss on Butts/Silvagni, we'll likely end up with less established younger type like Blanck or Young. This should mean a bit more towards a serious war chest for the following year, ready to go.

Vlastuin might be gettable as a pre-agent now but will definitely be gettable as a free agent in 12 months time - unfortunately it's another very short term solution. Right now I'd be calling Daniel Turner's agent TODAY and telling him to not be signing any short sighted contract extensions beyond 2026, as a silly offer from us will be forthcoming.

He's seriously impressed me every time I've watched him, to the point that I think he'll be among the top half dozen key defenders in the game for a long period of time. Many at Melbourne think he's captaincy material, possibly straight after Gawn - I think some extra leadership is another asset our defence could definitely do with.

They're a bit of a mess at the moment, and depending on their coaching appointments and trade period this off-season, they could drop to bottom 4 next year - a perfect time to swoop.
