Well, not if you only get 2 years of elite performance if that. Let's not forget he has played in a very defensive structure under Lyon that allows him to use his traits. I'm worried the way we structure up wouldn't suit him or anyone playing in our back half.
Considering how durable he’s proven to be I’d be confident he’d have 3-4 elite years left in him, but for arguments sake if it were just 2 but we manage to pinch a flag in that time is it worth it? Absolutely.

Depends what you define worth as, on an open market Sanders would be worth more, as he’s a lot younger and a future star of the comp.

Wilkie would be worth more to us right now though, as he fills a need.

If Wilkie does req a trade, I’m confident we could get it done without trading someone of Sanders caliber anyway.
If Wilkie wants out. No matter what they're delusional supporter base thinks. It will get done. You take Ugle-Hagan and our first round pick and you will like it. I Jest obviously, but keeping a player around who wants to leave is Toxic for any club.

Tom Boyd played for 4 years only 1 of them was good and it was all we needed

You just see a lot of players drop off and start to get niggles in there early 30s.... but yes a flag would be nice

ones who have had lots of issues sure but even then Shaun Burgoyne played 163 games after he turned 30 and Pendles has now played 172 and counting

Treloar types no Wilkie types who don't miss yes

agree with you but technically we have stuffed up our picks with Smith, and Jamarra that were high draft picks and I would hate to see another high pick go to waste when we can keep adding decent quality youth

Their footy careers not continuing with us is not some sort of 'stuff up'. If anything, both Smith and JUH's performances on field suggests we nailed the brief to bring in high quality footy players from the draft.

Recruiting an established player in using a high pick is the opposite of waste, it's the draft that turns out to be a gamble.

TO be fair I do trust Edmund... lives in Yarraville I believe just down the road from the club

Does he intercept the carrier pigeons or just have his ear to a particularly long hose that he's jammed in Sam Powers' office window?

In that case and with 5 on the bench, Lobb should go back to third tall forward/backup ruck. Croft develop at VFL.
5 on the bench does really open things up a bit. Lobb could still theoretically become a swingman around the entire ground as the 5th player on the bench.

As good as Lobb has been, I don't we should be making key personnel decisions around him given he'll be 33 in February. To me, he almost needs to become a luxury rather than a core cog.

Chasing Butts & Wilkie does make a lot of sense.

JOD Butts Cleary/other small defender.
Dale Wilkie Bramble

Smith would make a great FB. If we wanted to go down that route. I rate him massively & want him in the side. Agile & aggro. He deserves games next year. Has been incredibly consistent. Hope we can find him a spot with English in the side it will be difficult but at the very least hoping he gets a taste next year & re-signs. As he has future ruck, locked up for us.
I agree Johnnysteel he has mongrel good ground skills is left sided mobile and we must play him next year.

Honestly think we could fit both butts and Wilkie in to our defence. Would really ease the load on JOD.

Where would Lobb fit tho
Wilkie and JOD seem mobile enough that it wouldn't be a concern fitting all of those two plus Butts and Lobb. They'd rarely need to all be in defence at the same time.

With the expansion of the bench to 5, it also allows Lobb to become a genuine utility. Forward, back, ruck - he can play anywhere. Lobb or JOD, depending on needs, can be shifted forward to cover when Darcy/Naughton need rests.

Realistically, it's probably less than 5% chance of getting both Wilkie and Butts in. But even if we did, I'd have zero concerns about fitting everyone in

I reckon Gallagher is the exact type of player bf posters underrate when they’re developing. I believe in the kid.

Gallagher is strong for his size and has a good centre of gravity which means he can break tackles well.

His disposals needs a fair bit of work but I’m definitely not giving up on him yet

Lobb would be a genuine swingman and play second ruck.
Helps us keep Darcy as a deep forward too.

That's assuming we don't cop injuries which we almost certainly will.
