Have we even been linked to Ainsworth yet? For all we know we mightn't have any interest at all.
Don’t think any clubs have actually been linked at this point and I can’t see any reason why Gold Coast would actually let him go when their small/medium forwards are probably the only weakish point on their very strong list.

The odds of him leaving seem pretty low but it’s still interesting that some don’t think we should chase him on the off chance he does become available.

I feel like arty jones is going to have a breakout year next year. Could be the small forward we’ve been desperate for
Yep, he is ready to step up now! Big call but I see some Cameron traits in his game. Excited to see him play most of the season next year. He should be played ahead of VDM / Mcniel.

Do not want to be negative nelly but again our improvement needs to come from in. A number of teams who finished above us look liked getting some big names in the trade and we are going to get not a lot.

We are pretty good at identifying talent in the draft unfortunately we have lost a few of our star picks for not a lot.

Our team is significantly better over the next few years with Ainsworth than it is with either Dolan or Dovaston, that shouldn’t even be up for debate.

I do love the shiny new toys out of the draft but the reality is very few first year players are able to come straight in and improve a team, especially those taken outside the top 30 which is where the pick we’d use on Ainsworth would end up landing.
I do agree very few impact early but of the ones that can its often small forwards and midfielders. Personally I think Dovaston contributes more next year then Ainsworth but obviously cant be proven, Ainsworth plays more that half forward role that Dolan would occupy and it may be purely out of hope but I would think Dolan can contribute on par next season. I certainly wouldn't be against bringing in a mature half/ small forward but would like the cost to either be lower or team improvement more significant.

Dolan & Jones will play plenty of footy next year & make us much stronger.

Really like Dovaston as well. Looks like a plug n play type. Will impact early & Would help our pressure game immensely. Hopefully we pick him.

Don’t disagree with most of what you’re saying but to suggest that Dovaston or Dolan have more impact than Ainsworth just seems so unlikely.

It’s also worth noting that with Weightman back and West’s breakout we’re don’t really have room for another proper small forward like Dovaston, more the high half forward VDM replacement. I’d love Dolan to become that player for us long term but I think you’re underrating Ainsworth.

Very likely just due to me not rating Ainsworth you're right.

I do think with the way the game is being played now you need more genuine forward be it small pressure forwards or half forwards. I still want us to pick up one more this year plus El Souki next year.
Gives weightman the freedom to play more attacking football and also the ability to role one through the midfield as a point of difference if things aren't working there.

Talk of pick 7 for Flanders - seems overs doesn't it? Decent player but hasn't exactly set the world alight recently.

I think it’s an overpay. I’ve watched a fair bit of him and nothing jumps out.

Feel like he’s a player that Sanders will be like. A good accumulator who prefers to handball but isn’t that damaging.

I really rate him. He has a better two step burst then Sanders and a stronger core. I'd say in terms of our list he is closer to MKennedy and Hynes.

I imagine the Saints have essentially told Steele to leave to create an additional load of cap room to fit these acquisitions in.

NAS ($1 million extra), TDK ($1.7 million), Silvagni ($850k) & Flanders (Let’s say $700k) is genuinely $4 million plus on 4 players. Only one is elite too.

Ironically I think he projects as something like Petracca (whether he actually hits that level is another question) who will end up taking his place in the team.

Don’t think he’d be a worthwhile target for us but I’m not surprised he was chased so hard by so many clubs, he instantly improves the midfield of clubs like Essendon, Melbourne, Carlton and Saints and has plenty of upside.

Fair enough, I think differently but maybe that’s because he had a bit of a down season this year.

Happy to be wrong, but I don’t really see him as a Kennedy type.

He’ll get plenty more opportunities at the Saints

I hope Hynes can be that guy for us. He lacks the "excitement" of Petracca but has alot of everything else.

Be funny if the saints go past us next year with all these jabs at their strategy

The league is so stacked against smaller clubs good on them for having a shot
It'll be interesting to see how quickly they all gel together.

Free hit? We destroyed our draft hand for him.

well, we paid a single late first round for him, and maybe another lower pick or 2. For a clear top 2 player on talent It was a great deal, and also a no brainer decision that was handed to us.

compared with the Sanders deal where we conceived and engineered the entire thing and paid double that.

Our talent identification seems iffy right at this point, and our risk assessment seems wildly optimistic - maybe even delusional. Of course it might all turn out - but would you bet on him being a gun player playing for us in 4 years time? You would get very good odds.
