Gary Ablett Junior left Geelong and whilst I appreciate he had his success at Geelong before leaving, money talks. I fully expect Darcy, Daicos and the Ashcroft boys to be heavily targeted by Tasmania (and other clubs) and I suspect the interest won't actually just be one way.

The issue is going to be clubs like St Kilda making massive offers no one else can match just to get a big signing, and yes obviously Tassie.

We should aim to be generous and pay them what they are worth to us, but it’s also worth keeping in mind what paying overs to retain a player can do - see Clayton Oliver.

It is, but I will say I thought Geelong was facing an implosion around 2021 because of their age profile and aside from a post flag hangover in 2023 they’ve been beyond fine.

Our midfield is a position of need. Libba and Treloar are ancient and Bont is old. I wouldnt be counting Sanders as part of our long term midfield either.

Draft picks and salary are just a means to an end - we threw 2 first rounders at Sanders - an unproven quantity with a strong possibility of defecting to tassie. Butters is a proven elite player who wants to come here and thats not worth 3?

I doubt that, even though he does seem to have been in a few conflicts, I think he will probably try to pull his head in a bit and finish his career on a high.

If you put the 2025 version of Steven May into our side this year, I think we would have gone deep into finals and potentially have held up the premiership cup. The same could happen next year and we wouldn't have to risk\give up much to get him.

All we need is the willingness\ability to accommodate a slightly different personality type for a year or two, is that too much to ask?

He got smashed by the pies forwards in his last game of the season. He's cooked. Also he reportedly failed a medical at the Pies and are now unlikely to trade for him.

Absolutely agree. We have to remember Bont will be 30 next month as well. We might only get another couple of years as a full time midfielder before we look to ease the pressure on his body in a different role.

Ed & maybe Freijah are our only guaranteed full time midfielders for the next 5 years.
