By my completely unscientific measurement it's our quietest trade period since 2011. All other years we made multiple trades or had more significant changes in terms of trading up/down for points or trading more players in and out.

Id imagine it will be two of the three, with the third delisted and re-rookied.
JJ would probably retire if we delist him. Coffield and Poulter might stick around and do a pre-season training with us so we can pick one or the other come Feb.

So will we have a spot for a DFA ie Frost, Blight, Derksen or does that depend how many we cut of Poulter, Coff, JJ etc? Hoping we can add another mature KPP in case of injury.

JUH Jones Scott main list. Duyrea Rookie list. Buderick comes in. Coffield & JJ to go from main list. Poulter to go from rookie list. JOD to main list and Baker re-rookied? 3-4 spots to fill.

2 options
14 33 Darcy JOD 1 rookie
14 33 70 JOD 1 rookie Darcy cat B

I still think we look to shift the second pick, wether that be up or down. We also shown last year we were happy to be aggressive with pick trades during the draft so think thats a strong possibility again.

If we were inclined we could garantee to rookie list JJ without it requiring him to prove himself as a train on player. When we re-rookied McNeil and Doc we did it through the rookie draft.

Anybody care to do the calculus involved to figure out how many list spots we have based on necessary rookie upgrades etc?
According to draftguru

Dogs 2025
36 Senior
7 Rookies + 1 Cat B

Out:
Doc (rookie)
Marra (Senior)
Jones (Senior)
Scott (Senior)

Out of contract
JJ (Senior)
Baker (rookie)
Poulter (rookie)
Coffield (senior)

Agreed, but that might contribute to a decision not to retain him at all when we want the flexibility (and the advantage of picking between players over the course of a pre-season to make the better decision).

We can easily e.g. stick Poulter up against another delisted player from another club and let them battle it out over pre-season. Much more likely to make the better decision than if we commit to someone in November.

I think we would be more likely to keep an extra spot open for a DFA if that were the case, like we did this year. If neither train on player impresses we can again take it to the MSD.

Im thinking we will keep Baker, rookie JJ to keep his experience and allow him the opportunity to go out on his own terms next season, and release Coffield and Poulter.

I must be in the minority here but I really think ground ball defence was our weakness this year much more than aerial defence.

The key backs (JOD mainly) add to this often by all going up at once and leaving us exposed on the deck but I don’t hate our three best key backs.

Budarick looks a nice addition.

Let’s hope we get Butters next year

Only rating i saw had us as a D, and the worst. Surprise surprise it is the media
We didn't address multiple glaring weaknesses, downgraded our first rounder to bring in a guy that was pushed out of his preferred position and had a mediocre season

D is spot on

Am I right in thinking that we should essentially be hoping Port finish bottom of the ladder next year so they have pick 2 on the table for Zak?

Means they could feasibly just accept the compo and we grab Butters as a FA. Would at least make it a proper discussion about what they’re better off with.
Yep, and then you do some other dodgy trade like a first rounder for a spud to sweeten the deal - not sure if the AFL allows those things though

We have all seen how the script will play out next year. It will be repeat of the last 3 years. We had glaring weaknesses and we shit the bed. It's such a shame because we are close and we just needed a few additions here and there and we'd be roaring to go. Complete let down.

JJ or Coff would need to be moved to rookie list

This is incorrect. We can have 2 extra on the main list instead of two extra rookies if we choose. The rules state, you can have up to 38 on the primary list and 4 rookies for example. We went with 36 on the primary list and 6 rookies to start off the year.

JUH is completely off the books.

We traded our first rounder down a couple of spots to get a pick in the 30s, which we then used to trade in Connor Budarick.

Khamis is still a Bulldog.
Well it looks like buku might have to learn how to defend... Or he can play forward and Naughton can go back

We must address the elephant in the room

Still annoyed Jones went or was pushed
