Zak Butters over in California at the moment. Wonder if he got an invite to Bont’s wedding.

Watch a lot of the two's so happy to comment on Busslinger.

Strengths
Reads the play and flight of the ball very good.
Competent kick of the ball, especially with time and space.
Steady mark if position in the correct spot.
Generally, a smart footballer.
Weakness
Speed off the mark and speed in decision making.
Pushed off far too easy, needs to build strength, yet unfortunately there is a genetic limit here with all players.
Looks a bit laconic, needs to play with more desperation and urgency (this is different to speed).

In general, I hope he makes it and I'm sure he will improve. My problem is where does he fit in the side if he is not strong enough for key position and not quick enough for half back. He is a half back in a tall man's body.

He will get his chances this year, so let's hope he proves me wrong as we need him next year. He may succeed yet it will need the dogs to improve our overall defensive structures.

If we can get Stephen May and Zak Jones this off-season, I’m not sure where Butters fits in.

Zak B can intercede/referee at their first meeting when May punches Zak J...?

The fact that the Swans were happy to let Jones go and he barely averaged 12 games per season at Moorabbin is an accurate reflection of his career. Sadly, we've had a few similar plodders under Bevo who got longer careers than their ability reflected. In recent years, we seem to be moving them on earlier though... maybe Power and newer assistants influencing Bevo's sentimental attachments for the better?

I think hes a CHB and will rely on his positioning to influence. He will need to improve his body strength and fasten up his decision making though. For mine JOD will be the deep defender.

He was there.

Need Rick Kennedy tutoring Busslinger. Then it won't matter if his opponents are 20m away from him, they'll be looking over their shoulder to see where he is... maybe he could use one of them as a surfboard like Kennedy did with Dunstall on one occasion?! 🤔 😀
Love Kennedy (I used to wear no 8 on my back as a kid) but he'd play about 15 games over his career if he played today. Would be suspended the rest of the time!

How many games and seasons did we give English to prove himself?
We continue to give games to VDM & McNeil.
Why can't Buss be afforded the same opportunity?

English vs Busslinger is an interesting comparison.

Busslinger was drafted with an earlier pick than Tim, 13 vs 19, and debuted in his third year.

Tim debuted in his first season, and by his third season Tim had already established himself in the team playing 20 games that year.

Buss has been afforded more patience, not less.

That would still be worth the excessive membership fees just to see what damage he would cause, other teams forwards would be sh*tting themselves if he got named

English was gifted 50 games in his first few years.

English played a clear best-on-ground, 3 Brownlow Votes, 10 Coaches votes game in game 36 of his career. He got a Brownlow vote in game 15 of his career. To claim 50 games of his were gifted were just wrong and mis-remembering stats.

He had two years of development where he played nine games (we can argue three years of development as he was drafted as a 19 year old and would have been a listed player with 0 games played in his first year). So he was "gifted" 9 games, was clearly our best first-choice option for ruck and a best 22 player by game 10, R1 2019. This is a very weird line of argument.

He's still getting gifted games.

I know I like English more than the average poster on this thread but this is ridiculous. What's the point of having a forum discussion at all if this is your view. It's a non-reality. What's the point.

So unless we agree with you on all things football we shouldn't post our views in a forum about football?

If someone things that Tim English continues to be "gifted" games as opposed to being selected on merit to help a team win they exist in a non-reality that I don't think is worth engaging it - it goes beyond mere disagreement. We can debate and disagree on the extent of the value but I can't see any universe where a person doesn't think that English isn't currently the best option to be selected.

Please let's not have a never-ending shitfight about the relative merits of Tim English. Just accept that not everyone on here will agree with you, and some will even express views you think are crazy... and then just let it go. Please.

A geriatric, semi retired Goldstein held his own against English not too long ago. He's the 'best option' and has been because we haven't had any other options outside of Steff Martin and Sweet (who Bevo didn't give a fair go).
Let's apply the same logic to Buss. The only other option we have for the 3rd tall defender is/was Gardener and a cooked Jones.
So let's give him a go like we have English/Gardener/McNeil/VDM/McComb etc, etc, before we write him off.
