Has anyone got Steven May's number?

Would have loved Wilkie, absolute gun, but the trade price for a contracted player like him would have been enormous.

Hopefully now we keep our 1st for a Dovaston / Lindsay / Farrow and pay a lesser price for a still very solid FB like Butts.

If true, it's another year, another failed target. At some point you'd hope we're doing a comprehensive review of our processes, from player ID to communication to offers (both contractual and trade). We can't keep missing our top targets every year. It's particularly striking when you consider how big of a player movement period this is shaping up to be for both contracted and uncontracted players.

When was the last time a smaller Melbourne team got a big name contracted player to join?

The Saints President had to get involved and renegotiate a significantly improved deal to their already contracted ‘future captain’ to stop him requesting a trade to us.

Sounds like SOS & Gubby really were doing their best to **** this up for the Saints. Wilkie had them over a barrel, you can’t go all in on C graders and turn your pockets out for one of your 2-3 actual guns.

Well he's going to have major regrets this time next year when he see's our boys going up to collect their premiership medals and he realised he threw away over $2 million dollars + a premiership (2 things he'll never get at the Aints).

Agree with this. Every time we identify a target we've either been guzumped or they don't commit.
That some have been dodged bullets us besides the point we just aren't getting it done.

Assuming you meant Barrass, well Hawthorn were always going to be a more attractive proposition than us.

As for Wilkie, it was the Saints that gave him a chance as a mature age rookie so I don't mind that he wanted to stay loyal. The fact we got this far probably meant our process worked reasonably well.
Off the top of my head in recent history: Silvagni, Erasmus, Peatling, Barrass, Bedford, De Koning, Henry, Impey.

Interesting the president pulls rank and personally offers a significant contract increase when the list manager wouldn't.
Was always a game of chicken and seems Saints blinked first.
It won't hurt the Saints in 26 or 27 but they cant pay 105% forever. Guys like Tauru and Barrat will be needing more game time and money soon.
Personally if I were Power I'd now be in the ear of Barrat and see how he feels being behind Aleer, Wilkie, JSos and Tauru for the foreseeable future.

Adam Tomlinson still keen for a kick? He’d go well back there with our other Hail Mary DFAs, Cat Bs and failed forwards.

President overruling the List Manager, serious football club.

I think it's time we switch our focus to good mature aged VFL players to recruit.

I heard of this one KPD, recently won a premiership and was named in the VFL Team of the Year. Can't remember his name exactly but he seems like the kind of bloke we should be going after. I think he is contracted though 😔😔.

Oh well. Nothing lost, nothing gained.
We forced the Saints to raise their offer, stretching their cap now and limiting flexibility in future years.

I suspect free agency will explode over the next few years. In the past, players rarely left for an extra 100–200k a year. With the salary cap rising, that gap could now be 400–600k a year. Over a typical five-year deal, that could be $2m difference. Cap space will be king.
