One other thing the Brisbane win showed (much like us in ‘16 and Sydney in ‘12) is that you don’t need A Grade key forwards to win it.
Dominate in the middle and solid forwards will get it done.

Agree. Something we actually have is A grade key forwards, we have a very good not great midfield. We are only 1 A Grader off though

I’m not actually bothered by this.

People massively overrate the impact of one player and I think clubs are getting sucked into overpaying select individuals way too often.

I’d much rather try to pick the eyes out of the draft (which to be fair to the club we often do in the first round at least) and supplement with solid acquisitions.

I think we did pretty well getting Keath, Bruce and Martin in the lead up to 2021 for the price we did. Treloar was a unicorn. It supplemented our strong base and got us to a grand final.

It’s just a shame Bruce got injured and Martin was a year too old but the idea was sound.

Not sure I buy this logic as we're positioned around having a decent enough year (if Bont was fit, we'd have arguably been top 4...) and a prime Bont to top up and win.

The fact that two arguably flawed teams at times in the H&A season made it to the GF should give us enthusasim. It's small margins and one player IMO can be the difference to us giving the premiership a real go next year.

The way the Tylar Young situation is developing, I thought there must be a go home factor for West Coast to be in the box seat. Just checked and he was recruited from Frankston. If we are truly in the race to get him, then things are grimmer than I thought.

We've clearly got massive cap space free considering the Wilkie offer and weirdly timed extensions for Dale and Lobb.

We really need to go hard and get Butts or someone of similar quality as well as another couple of best 22 players (likely Budarek and Robertson). That boost could be enough to propel us forward like it did with Adelaide.

Nick Daicos is signed until 2029. He’s already used fairly not-committal language when asked about Tassie vs Pies.

I won’t be surprised at all if Tassie goes for him as their marquee player. By that stage, he could be looking at $3 million/year long term. If not more, depending on how the cap changes from here.

No he’s not his pressure acts aren’t that high and after 6 rounds he stop impacting on the scoreboard

There’s not a problem with VDM in isolation being in the side. The problem is if we have five or six of around his quality. He’s better than the worst player in your average grand final side.

Saw an opportunity to potentially pry a player out of another club. Had a red hot crack but were always up against it. In reality not many of the highest quality players move clubs, so certainly not a failure.
