Melbourne is willing to pay 700k per year for the next 5 years of Oliver's contract. He must be a complete cancer. What's the gossip on him?
Been two feet out of the club for like 4 years now

Looks the industry in general is over the sort of stuff that Oliver, JUH etc have been doing.

Years ago it was probably tolerated / accepted a bit more.

Made sense from our end,

Our midfield for most of the year in the 2s was Scott Crofts Craig-Peters none of those 3 are currently on our list

We don’t need to use AFL list spots for our VFL team

At the very least he is behind Bont, Libba, Richards, Treloar, Kennedy and Freijah. We have Sanders, Harmes and Garcia getting fairly regular games who can fill the roles if we have heaps of injuries. Also West to pinch hit because I wouldn’t want to keep him out of the forward line too long. Plus Hynes who will probably be more suitable in a few years time

If he could play the half forward line role like Kennedy can then definitely worth enquiring about but don’t see the point of adding one dimensional players in the position of our highest strength

I like Billy Crofts as a player. He had a knack for scoring from a forward stoppage during the year.
It's a neat trick for a mid. I wouldn't be upset if he ended up on our rookie list

In terms of a small forward, I'd be looking at the state leagues unless we go for Doveston. Look for another Mannagh. There are a few out there with more mature bodies that provide a great scoring threat.

There are always Gems out there, you just have to really look, and have a little luck.

Haha c’mon get a grip mate, Robertson is a Riley Garcia level player

You can’t bring in two first round picks or Adam Treloar every year
I know that, hence why I said "no matter the quality of the targets". I'm just saying this period is always a big tease that usually doesn't end with much.

His issue is that he's a completely one dimensional player who is incapable of playing a role other than as an inside mid.

His contract that has another 5 seasons to run is an exemplar from clubs point of view why no player should be signed up to 8 years deals. But here they are with an albatross of their own making hanging around their necks. The only way to rid themselves of such a poor decision is to carry half of the weight of his contract going forward.

Its a colossal case of list mismanagement the likes of which we've never really seen before.'

Im not sure if its was by accident or design. But we've just dodged as big a bullet with the implosion of Jamarras career at the dogs. I don't think its an accident that both players seem to have similar off field issues. Ones that have derailed what should've been great careers. Th difference lays with Oliver having teh surety of a long lucrative contract to fall back on. Jamarra has no such safety net.

Treloar's Collingwood money off the books now, do we do a similar moneyball move and grab Oliver?
Is Oliver a chance of getting back to AFL level? Realistically, give me your honest thoughts. It seems like way too big a risk for likely little reward.

Moneyball aside, the culture hit alone makes it detrimental.

I wonder if Petracca still leaves if the Dees delist Oliver.

What a shit situation for the Dees cause ideally that's the best thing they can do but man their salary cap takes a massive hit for the next four seasons with Clarry still on the books.

At only $600k per season I think every club would be doing their due diligence. Though like Petracca, I'd suggest it's just not something we'd be wanting to do. Unless he can dramatically improve his disposal, it's hard to see clubs with decent midfield depth really chasing too hard for his services.

He'd be a handy pick up for Adelaide, Geelong, Collingwood, West Coast (though I suspect off-field this mightn't be a good fit).

I'm a pretty hard no, personally. There's a reason that Melbourne want him gone.

Having just been through the JUH saga I think it’s better to look elsewhere.

And I’ve hung too much crap on my Dees supporter mates about him and Petracca to handle us getting either one.

I don't want Oliver as much as the next person but I wonder if Melbourne would want to get the entirety of his contract offer the books. We are probably one of only a few clubs that could do it without it hurting our budget to bring in a topline player. If we could buy their future first which is likely a top 5 pick it'd go a long way to getting a deal done for Butters.
