Oliver has chosen GWS over Pies.
The only problem is that Oliver is very similar to Tom Green. Their midfield was already reasonably slow and now they are going to dump two types of the same player into it that can't play elsewhere on the field. GWS did need to add to their midfield though.

Oliver would have been a very good fit at the Pies but it likely comes down to contractual issues.

The club have had some bad luck with that management company
There's more around the league which I cbf posting.

Not related to Sanders because he's nothing but professional and football focussed but when do the managers get held accountable for their clients shitful behaviour? It's always the club dragged through the mud.

Paul Connors has a history of being on the wiz fizz.

Sneaky truth about GWS is that they don't bat deep in the midfield, so getting a heavily discounted Oliver, while a bit of duplication to Green would help on that front.

It was clear as day on deadline day last year, bloke was flying.

Everyone and their dog knows Nick Watson was our target.

But there wasn’t a key defender of any sort below Sanders in the draft? Or a midfielder with a greater point of difference?
In fairness, we already knew we were getting Croft as a first rounder that draft. Balancing him out with an inside mid would've seemed like a pretty balanced choice (still does for mine).

I think the trade or compensation value we would get from Tassie would far exceed what we would get from anyone now, plus Butts is a non restricted FA in 12 months time. It’d be a lot to pay to shift that forward 12 months.
I haven’t forgotten how the club got porked by the AFL with the compensation we received for Callan Ward when GWS entered the competition. For those who may not recall, we received just 1 first round pick whilst Melbourne received 2 first round picks for Scully.

The AFL should revise what we got and give us another first round pick this year and take one of Melbournes away 😉

There's a hell of a lot of extrapolation going on based on a question that was probably asked of dozens of players, their management or club over the last few days and weeks.

Have you guys bothered to consider Sanders disposition as to whether or not he wants to go to Adelaide as you dream up your trade scenarios? Theres little incentive for him to move to Adelaide when he can just play out his contract and then go home to Tasmania and make history by playing in their inaugural team.

We constantly bemoan the lack of loyalty in players whenever they even hint at leaving the club. Yet everybody seems quick to move on players if they reckon they can be used as a piece of a bigger puzzle.

well, the "just going back to tassie part" is the point. If he was saying things like 'hell no, I want to stay at the bulldogs' then us supporters would be reluctant to trade him. But he isnt, hes publicly saying 'hmmm, yeah, tassie....'

so if Sanders/we think that he wont be part of our long term plans, what is the benefit of continuing to sink investment into him for the next 2 years so that tassie can reap the long term rewards?

If butters wants to play with us for the next 10 years and Sanders doesnt, then it kind of writes itself, doesnt it?

I'm with ya. Buss is divisive amongst supporters, and I wanted to get a Butts or Wilkie to shore about our KPD stocks, but i'm excited to back Buss in and see what level he can get to with a full pre-season under his belt, and the experience he got in 2025. He has become a very important player for us and our immediate goals all of a sudden.

I would still like a Sam Frost type as depth, maybe Derksen as we are thin at both ends losing Buku, JUH and Jones.
Butts is seen as a totally different type of defender that would require the whole team defence to change to suit him.

In fairness, Nick Daicos said he'd be open to a conversation about it as well - clearly Sanders is a more intriguing case because he is Tasmanian, but we'd call anyone a liar that stated they weren't open to multi-million dollar sign on bonuses/salaries so I don't mind the honesty.

Exactly, hopefully if it is the case he has already let us know so we can at least plan for it.
