SA media just in reporting Butters has committed to Port for next year
This was put bed some time ago it was only the bigfooty bulldog dreamers thinking we could get him this trade period.

He is coming back to Victoria next season so that is a one in ten chance.

You can rule the saints out no salary space. You would think his order would be a team in the flag window, $ in the contract, length of contract, senior coach, senior players, facilities, opportunity to play in big games and maybe some loyalty to the dogs the team he supported as a kid.

If premiership window is one of the main priorities you would think that rules out the tigers, bombers, roos, blues and dees.

That would leave the cats, pies, hawks and dogs. Hope we can get him over the line but it will tough.

Collingwood are next to no chance, neither are the Dawks.

Geelong will struggle with currency if they get Curnow and I'm fairly confident he prefers the dogs anyway.

Geelong can't offer Cotton on deals without the AFL being all over it

AFL will never be all over Geelong, looking the other way is in both their and Geelong’s interest

Geelong offer is insulting. Pick 20ish 23ish and 30ish probably. They dreaming
Funny how the mindset changes when it's a big club being offered shit picks

While we had every media person saying take the deal

Both out of contract and a belligerent ****wit who’s management (by speculation) was making it clear there’d be consequences for any other club who picked him up in the draft before Geelong, or even threatened to do so. The moment that happened the definition of a “fair price” completely changed.

Exactly! the media played a massive role in making sure the deal was done, and we wouldn't get a fair trade

So you can write a contract that says essentially if a player doesnt behave like a professional footballer it can be terminated?

um, why wouldnt all contracts already say that?

Why do they get to do it and we dont?
Isn't that what we did with Luke Goetz? Or whatever his name was.

I'm currently learning Russian and German as something to keep my mind working. I came across this bloke in one of the chat apps and now I'm wondering if Bevo has a long lost Russian side to his family.

Big difference between pick #83 unheard-of Luke Goetz and pick #1 star junior indigenous kid and one of the showpieces of the AFL’s NGA program.

Nobody cared what happened to Goetz. However JUH has become a household name (partly for the wrong reasons) and the AFL’s pride in its fostering of the game among aboriginal kids is embodied in him.

They really don’t want his career to crash and burn. If it must end prematurely they’d rather ease him out quietly and with a minimum of attention. So it’s important they are closely involved in managing it most of the way.

We also paid out Goetz's salary, it was only half of one year of literally a minimum amount ($50k or whatever it was outstanding).

Little bit of a difference between now and 2015 in how we give people a bit more of the benefit of the doubt and understanding regarding mental health, especially as I don't think Goetz ever claimed mental ill-health anyway.
