Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
Agree. Works with his high press defensive game style. Same with ruckmen. Wants a mobile one, not a big lump, so acts as an additional midfielder at the coalface. It all ties in with game style and approach - can’t have immobile full backs if playing a high press as its positionally vulnerable and need some agility to cover space. Not sure it works though!!!!I think this is what’s lost on people. Everyone just saw Butts as a KPD and assumed he is what we need.
I have a feeling Bevo & the club aren’t keen on pure lockdown KPD that offer nothing else. Guys like Keane & Wilkie can play that role but also intercept and offer a level of drive off half back.
I wonder what we were offering up for Keane?
If Butters is looking so likely I wonder if we trade our first for a F1. If we don't then a player will likely have to be involved when we trade next year.

I don't think many teams will want to trade into this year's draft. If Butters is looking so likely I wonder if we trade our first for a F1. If we don't then a player will likely have to be involved when we trade next year.
Not to mention the bid on He Who Shall Not be Named.Wonder what Ah Chee's contract demands in the Pre Season Draft will be?
Wouldn't mind the Dogs snaffling him before Adelaide as we don't owe them any favours - Ridiculous price on Butts, tried to unsettle Sanders along with comments that they will try again, and of course the infamous TaliaGate.
Ah Chee would be a handy acquisition.![]()
And that would be a bad move.If Butters is looking so likely I wonder if we trade our first for a F1. If we don't then a player will likely have to be involved when we trade next year.
Going to be hard to do that. No one wants to trade into this draft. If Butters is looking so likely I wonder if we trade our first for a F1. If we don't then a player will likely have to be involved when we trade next year.
I think this was discussed when Eagles fans were saying the same about English. You only need to match the entire length and amount of the contract. So front loading/ back ending the money is irrelevant.Am I missing something. Why should we offer anything to Port for Butters if he's a restricted free agent?
We just have to front load his contact so much that Port can't match. We get Butters and they get a compensation pick.
With all the cash we've freed up we should be able to offer more than Port.
Port have money too they’ll very likely be able to match. I believe the AFL also tightened the rules around restructuring contracts after Brisbane exposed that loophole with DaniherAm I missing something. Why should we offer anything to Port for Butters if he's a restricted free agent?

They won't win the spoonPort have money too they’ll very likely be able to match. I believe the AFL also tightened the rules around restructuring contracts after Brisbane exposed that loophole with Daniher
Best case scenario as mentioned by others is Port finish last and we end up in a situation where the compo pick is more attractive than anything we could offer
I agree but we should all be hoping they do. Lower they finish the more attractive their compo looksThey won't win the spoon
AFL still waiting to confirm Dougie status for port NGAF*CK Port. If they choose to match him, we just put the thee firsts on the table and they’ll accept it by the end of trade week. They won’t let him go to the preseason draft for nothing.
Hopefully it’s null and void and they finish last anyway. Then they can just accept the pick 2 compo. Don’t they also have the potential pick 1 in their NGA? So potentially if they have pick 1 for finishing last, pick 2 as Butters compo and pick three as their NGA kid then that is far better than anything we could offer.
One less option for him to nominate works for us. Seems like we’re the front runners but it’s not a foregone conclusion. If Butters nominates us it doesn't matter who else is interested. Sammy had better stay on top of it to ensure that nomination !
I reckon everyone here in Bacchus Marsh knows it. Worst kept secret.Your ITKs probably already mentioned but spoke to a friend who works with a family member of Butters. 95% going to dogs end of next year.
Fair enough, I remember him showing a fair bit of promise when he first came on the scene as a young key defender. He has a booming boot but no other attributes.
Its a good idea but I can't see any teams bite due to scouting reports that this year's draft isn't very strong and compromised by Acadamy picks/FS and 2027 looming for tassie. If Butters is looking so likely I wonder if we trade our first for a F1. If we don't then a player will likely have to be involved when we trade next year.
You're taking about a guy whose training standards are so poor Lyon sent him to train with the VFL squad.Even if that stories true, which there’s no evidence it is, I couldn’t give a shit what stupid shit someone did when they were in high school. Smith was a model citizen and look how that worked out.
It didn't stop after he was drafted. The thing people do as teenagers say absolutely nothing about who they are as adults. Imagine writing a person off for being a ****head when they’re 18.
It’s also completely unproven.
I have no doubt he'd be at the very least a serviceable AFL talent if he took things seriously. You're taking about a guy whose training standards are so poor Lyon sent him to train with the VFL squad.
He's not fit enough, not committed enough, hates contested ball and is a shit bloke to boot.
There is zero reason to actually consider him. He kicks 60m and has no other AFL qualities.
Possibly but after being given many many chances he hasn't changed. It would be a very small chance that he changes both his off field behavior and his on field style of play. He'd instantly become the least contested player on our list and I want guys who love the contest, not avoid it.I have no doubt he'd be at the very least a serviceable AFL talent if he took things seriously.
I agree it isn't likely to change but just another case of a kid expecting to coast on talent alone.Possibly but after being given many many chances he hasn't changed.
