Given JJ Bramble Clear types played a heap of games yes we needed too
Wouldn't be suprised to see him trialed on a wing either. He has enough endurance for the role and offers a marking target even though he isn't as tall as Davidson or othe wings we've seemed to favour.

I expect Budarick to move into JJ's role which will offer a better defensive balance from our smaller types.

Bramble's spot is well and truly up for grabs. He's been solid but if a Jacques or Carmichael type can take the opportunity then it's an easy swap.

Budarick JOD Sellwood
Dale Lobb Cleary
Bramble/Jacques/Carmichael

That's what I'd be running with to start the year with Sellwood & Cleary spending time on the medium to taller types. I don't think we need to gift games to Buss for the sake of it unless he's demanding selection.

The strike rate of this is SERIOUSLY underwhelming. I'm not necessarily advocating that Coffield should have been kept, but over the last 7 years the standout draftees from pick 50 > include Jase Burgoyne, Calsher Dear, Toby Bedford, Noah Answerth, Lachie Schultz and Hugo Garcia.

Lawson Humphries was in there too, but I don't really rate him as anything but a lone (and I mean LONE) man in defence and distributor.
With the possible exception of Dear the ambidextrous Humphries is by far the most talented of the names you have mentioned. He rarely loses a one-on-one contest and is the best kick on both feet in the game which he showed in his classy performances in the Indigenous All-stars game and the AFL grand final this year as well as Geelong’s finals campaign last year

Bramble has been the ultimate money ball acquisition and done well for us, but I'd be worried if he played every single game again next year (remember he hasn't missed once since we got him). His leash should be shorter assuming Budarick, Sellwood, Jacques, Carmichael etc... show something.

I'm not going to go 10 rounds with this, but I don't hold him as high as most.

I think he's a fine player, and you'd ABSOLUTELY take him at a pick over 50 (probably a pick over 20) but I also think he gets shielded by Geelong's strong all-over-ground defence and positioning, and while he can kick well with both feet, at a ratio of 3:1 Uncontested:Contested you'd hope he'd be able to hit targets with both.

might be the first club to get shafted by the suns in a trade more than once
How?

We traded picks 14, 33 and 53 for picks 15 and 29.

We knew 14 would evaporate through bidding so no actual loss there, whilst 53 wasn't required since we can match a late bid for Darcy without needing it meaning it was an irrelevant pick to us. Moving up to 29 from 33 might not do much for us once picks in between disappear but we didn't lose anything of value for it, so how were we shafted? At worst it was a meaningless trade.

If it was the case we were into Lindsay as a priority, then giving the suns extra currency meant weagles didnt get addinsal, so they took 'our boy' instead. IF.

I'd be curious to know if we had our eye on Carmichael from the start? Might explain a few things.
We were linked to both Kyle and Carmichael a few weeks back as potential bidders (and to Jai Murray too from the Suns academy).

Add the Lindsay interest and we seemed absolutely determined to get a HF with our first pick last night.

Since JUH 2020 national draft subsequently a debacle none of the dogs doing we have not had many high picks the exception Sam Darcy under the father son. How do we rate them.

2021

Pick 2 Sam Darcy A massive stand out
Pick 43 Arty Jones Jury out next season will decide if he was value pick at 43
Pick 61 Luke Cleary At 61 he has been a good pick and although probably only a solid citizen still has an upside.

2022
Pick 13 Jed Busslinger Currently a failure at 13 although next season a make or break.
Pick 24 Charlie Clarke A Massive failure
Pick 39 Harvey Gallagher Jury out next season to determine his value

2023
Pick 56 Ryley Sanders The kid can play but at pick 6 he needs a break out season to prove his value
Pick 15 Jordan Croft The father/ son shows great potential after some bad luck with injury
Pick 45 Joel Freijah Absolute gem at 45, do the draft again he would be top 10
Pick 47 Lachlan Smith Yet to play AFL jury out, ruckman take time but needs to prove himself soon
Pick 55 Aiden O'Driscoll Unfortunate injury ended his career before it started

2024

Pick 20 Copper Hynes Like most of 2024 too early to say but shows promise
Pick 29 Lachie Jacques Yet to play but shows promise in the 2s
Pick 31 Josh Dolan Like most of 2024 too early to say but shows promise
Pick 51 Sam Davidson The Doc mature age recruit good first season a steal at 51
Pick 61 Luke Kennedy Yet to play but shows promise in the 2s

2025 So far

Pick 21 Lachlan Carmichael ??

So in the 4 drafts not counting 25 since the JUH draft we have had 16 picks in the national draft with 14 still on the list. Charlie Clarke the only failure and the unfortunate injury to Aiden O'Driscoll.

The four standout picks for me are Sam Darcy, Joel Freijah, Jordan Croft and Sam Davidson with Luke Cleary value. That leaves 9 to prove their worth and next season a make or break for probably all of them except the 2024 crop.

Norf considering bid on Will Darcy with the first pick apparent
What absolute North Nuffie came up with that idea? Kangas are a stupid club; However, they're not that dumb. Take him, he'll walk to us after developing in a few years.

Bidding on a desired F/S only works if there is any chance of a brighter future. Bottom dweller North thinking this way Is absurd.

obviously didn't happen, but would have been very funny. they'd get to do the hard work of getting some mass onto him and developing in the VFL, then he'd come to us in two years with a lot of the initial work done (though some bad North habits to break)

Not at all a knock on the guys we’ve drafted in the last two years, however, if you told me that we’d lose:
Jack Macrae, Bailey Smith, Caleb Daniel and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan

Finish 8th (Pick 11), Finish 9th (Pick 10)

And only bring in Connor Budarick and Matt Kennedy via trade.

I am a bit confused how we have managed to actually only take:

Picks 21, 27 and a late match bid in 2025
And picks 20, 29, 31, 51 and 62 in 2024.

All without also having a large 2026 haul.

Quite remarkable really.

Getting all of Macca’s salary off the books and pick 25 for Caleb were masterstrokes.

Libba doesn’t think so…..Packers shirt and Cheese Head

I think that Libba works on an entirely different level of irony than most human beings.

So he gets a pass when he wears a ridiculous oversized plastic gold chain and a block of cheese on his head.

And thats the joke.

Any other person would look like a fool is such a garb.
