He is a far better kick than Cross BD.
Crossy couldn’t kick over a jam tin.

Agree with that, but he kicked the ball less then 6 times on average this year which isn't anywhere near good enough. It really is strange because Sanders at U16 level took the game on a lot more and kicked a lot more which gives me optimism that he can do it again. However he's had this handball obsession ever since after U16's and it seems to only be getting worse. Even this year he handballed it over a 2 to 1 ratio which was worse then ever and that really should never be happening given he's playing outside roles. Is it the way he's been coached? I don't know. I know he has to get out of this mindset or he's just going to end up being a bit average.

Hi fellas, what is the ruck Lachie Smith's contract situation and what is he like as a player in the VFL? Was brought up on our board
He’s decent and will never play AFL due to English. Same situation as Sweet. Definitely will be a cheap target for other clubs.

Improving well enough at his age to think he has an AFL future.

His game takes a lot of development because he's a short ruck made worse by a short wingspan and short jumping reach and an inability to play other positions other than ruck. So he has to be a crafty, physical ruck who reads the play and reads the stoppage well, your Ben Hudson/Toby Nankervis types.

By all accounts he's apparently happy to bide his time behind English and keep developing his game, and he is a Victorian so there's no interstate move motivation.

Much more mobile and better skills than Sweet. Never play is a massive statement

He refused a 3 year extension earlier this year and instead went with a 1 year in order to prove himself and leave options open for other opportunities.

In a game that prefers to poach rather than develop young rucks. Or to keep journeymen the likes of Tom Campbell on a list as a backup. His refusal to sign a contract extension makes plenty of sense. He's already shown enough to suggest that he will be a competent ruck sooner rather than later. Whether that is with us, or at multiple clubs across the course of his career, remains to be seen.

I wish he did kick it more because he is an above average kick.
Should be a focus for him in the pre season.

Bont played 16 games year 1, 21 games year 2.

Ryley played 14 games year 1, 21 games year 2.

Let's just hope Ryley maintains the trajectory and plays 26 games and a flag year 3.

Ill Allow It GIF
