Per Twomey its us or the Cats for Butters in the latest Gettable. Also saying Freijah's contract could push towards $1m per if he keeps performing.
So Twomey is saying if Freijah puts in Bont like performances he could get a Bont like contract!
Who would have thought. You just don’t get insight like that from anyone else.

If it's down to us and Geelong and Geelong win out then I cannot be held responsible for my actions. I was criminally insane Your Honour.

I'll be so happy and slightly relieved once Freijah signs that contract. Such a special player and so important to our future midfield. 6-8 years at $800-$900k no problem with me
In 3 to 4 years 800 k will be the average afl wage. No way he signs long term for that. In five years when he is at his peak 2 million will be standard for the guns of the league which he will be

In 3-4 years it will be probably be around 600K, average wage being 800K might be a little high.

Darcy, Naughton, Bont have all signed recently for unders and not outrageous to suggest Freijah wouldn't be happy to lock in 900K for say 5 years, guarantee a good chunk of money and set up for another huge pay day when he turns 25-26. He's a still a developing, just turned 20 year old who loves the club. Are you suggesting he is going to sign his second contract at $1.4 - 1.5 mil plus and be the highest paid player at the club?

No, only that he would be crazy to sign long term. 2 to 3 years and then see where things are at. Not many his age sign long term, they back themselves

Yeah I can definitely see him signing for 2-3 years to maximise his value, me saying sign him for 6 plus wasn't a prediction, more my hopes and dreams. A 3 year extension at that 800k - 900k ish figure after a strong start to the year would be most likely scenario I'm guessing.

I am happy to give him a reach around if it helps.
There could be a precedent.
Wasn’t there something about a players’ elephant walk (or whatever they called it) at a fundraiser back in the dire financial years of the early 90s?

It's a risky play. He'd need to back himself into continuing his current trajectory and most importantly hope he doesnt cop an injury that derail that moment or god forbid his career. I'm all for guys on the the edge of the team or showing signs of a breakout signing short term deal like Smith did but in my opinion Freijah would be mad not to capitalise on his early form and sure up his long term future.

It depends on the player. Sam Darcy probably cost himself a million+ on his current deal by signing early, for longer.
There's not a club in the comp that wouldn't pay him $1.5 to $2m per season and he's on way less than that.

He also had some unlucky injuries prior to that which may have seen him elect the safer option. No doubt in hindsight he could've gotten more out of the club.

Over the length of his life I suspect that things may even out a bit financially for Sam Darcy.

He'll probably be ok.
He and his dad are smart enough to know that there's still a bit of AFL social cache left for being a one-club man, even if that one-club is not one of the big Melbourne clubs. There's still a little bit of that sense of disapproval in the Melbourne high-flier community that if you shopped yourself around for a pay increase, you're not as classy or whatever.

There's a reason Nathan Brown is doing Sportsbet Ads while Luke Darcy was invited to Juddchella.

Given the Darcy pub empire Sam is unlikely to be visiting a soup kitchen any time soon regardless.

Here I was thinking that the generational wealth joke of a player who is destined to land in the top 1% of earners in the game that I was making wouldn't need explaining...

It might be time for ol' Norm to hang up the microphone and step off the stage.
