I tried to join and got rejected a couple of years ago. I'm an active poster here and would contribute to anything I join.

It completely put me off it like it's run by some superior gatekeeper. It's honestly ridiculous and to be honest baffling.

I was a member for a while, but found WOOF to be humourlessly insular and cliquey. And it only seems to have gotten worse in the years since. After the walls went up and they tightened who could view their pearls of football wisdom I think you need to be on the spectrum just to qualify for their lofty standards.

I bet they're all those cringey supporters who actually wear club apparel

The same people also complain about the forums dying due to lack of new blood, or refer to BigFooty as something evil, or shit talk some of the ITK posters over here (myself included) because not 100% of things are correct.

Makes no sense to me.

It’s the internet. Of course it makes no sense.

As someone who is "ITK" on a very rare occasion in the past, it's easy see how things are not 100% correct.

I had "ITK" info late in one season at some point in the last 10 years that the club was gearing up to delist a player (who was still getting some games at the end of the year), did the exit review on that basis. No reason to doubt the ITK news and I had it corroborated as well as I could. It was happening.

Then what happened as the end of the season unfolded, a combination of other players/draft evolving (ie other team's player recruits/trades that we thought highly likely at the time of the season end fell apart).

Additionally - the player who was about to be delisted who, while not unprofessional, was certainly not among the most professional in the club, changed his approach completely. I think he cancelled a holiday, did his own pre-season early, and I think with a bit of intel from the club/manager (after being told directly in his exit interview he was all but delisted) and the fact no other club was interested in picking him up, saw the writing on the wall for his AFL career. This was to a complete surprise to the club coaching/football staff - this was completely out of character for the player. He then managed to hold onto his spot on the list for the following year.

I think he was delisted a year or two after this anyway (obviously you drift back to your normal personality and professionalism eventually) but I'm making the point that things change over time and it didn't make the "ITK" news incorrect at the time it happened - the club clearly intended to delist this player at the exit interview and told the player face to face that was what they were planning to execute. People are not wrong, things emerge and evolve.

Couldn't agree more.
My information 90% of the time comes from a player manager, who's hearing it from contacts with the club / other player managers / players he manages, by the time whatever information he wants to give me, gets to my ears, it can already be outdated, the grapevine is long with many tendrils. Football changes incredibly quickly, only need to look at the Hugh Greenwood situation with Gold Coast and North, a situation that went down in the space of 48 hours.

I pass on anything I think is relevant and current, sometimes right, sometimes wrong, if some posters on another website don't like that, oh well.

I cracked into the VIP section of Woof last pre-season after about 1–2 months of posting 5–6 times a day. A lot of the threads were hard to contribute to properly, so I was mostly just trying to boost my activity.

The pre-season thread in the VIP section was actually really good. There are some genuinely dedicated posters over there and full credit to them. I just found it hard to keep up that level of posting every day and dropped off once the season started. I can’t be bothered putting in that kind of effort again with 2 kids under 5 keeping me occupied. but I do miss the really detailed updates this time of year.

My brother reckons the Pies board has a couple of really good posters – Swoop Luke and Jen. Apparently Swoop Luke even does a weekly video breaking down individual players. Would love that sort of dedication over here. Some of you boys need to lift your game!!! (Only joking)

Having two kids under 5 can make it very difficult to keep up your footy forum posting quota. It's enough to turn a ScragCity into a BigFloppa.

Now all we need is the return of Mattdougie....

Another cohort of supporters clearly on the spectrum or stuck in a perpetual state of adolescence.

To be fair. Forums are a thing of the past. Especially those with a singular focus on a subject as esoteric as all things one football team. Something that isn't really encouraging of new blood. They're also not that far off the mark when it comes to bigfooty. I cant speak to nowadays, but they used to have a couple of IDK that would come up with good stuff, so their reaction is probably more about protecting their own turf.

Nobody goes to bat a 1000.

Not even me.

Gotta convince the WOOF posters to come on over to our joint on Bigfooty and lighten up a bit

We all bleed RW&B
Don’t the administrators of this site get remunerated according to participation levels? Plus it’s supported by advertising. AFAIK WOOF is privately run by a small group. They’re entitled to set their own rules.

Isn’t there room for more than one forum?

If the benefit is more detailed pre-Christmas pre-season reports ... who honestly actually cares?

Even assuming that an average merchandise-wearer is capable of understanding who is "training well" and "not training well" by turning up to training (highly doubtful), and even assuming that that is put into context (ie, when someone says they're training well, it's as a comparison to how they typically train, some players train well and play badly and vice versa) ... what does this actually mean? How does training well actually correlate to premiership point performance? It's very doubtful. Sanders has "trained well" in both pre-seasons and been slightly poorer than his draft position would entail.

Is it a matter of having an interest in training in and of itself, for its own sake? That is real merchandise wearing behaviour. Even speaking at someone who is so passionate for the team I have thousands of incomprehensible posts on this board, I still have a life in the middle of sunny December than to spend my time having an interest in Western Bulldogs training for its own sake. For me, I care about administration of the club (as a voting member), club values, and winning games of football. Training only matters in the context of how it impacts the last of those things, and other than maybe positional changes, I honestly don't see how significant that some person with way too much time on their hands and zero understanding of modern high performance football maybe incorrectly observing that Luke Kennedy "looked good" in one of the 100 training sessions they'll have in pre-season has any real influence on the number of wins we may or may not have at the end of the year.

So really, what's the desire to get these more detailed training reports on WOOF?

It does seem a bizarrely heavy handed set up. Post all day, every day or get booted. Surely that just encourages crap for the sake of it, as well as discourages heaps of good contributors that have a life and can't post every day.

This is not true. I’ve been a member for a long time but don’t post very often. I have a look every few days, comment if I have anything to offer.

Just don’t understand the reason to wall off supporters who would be interested in reading those reports. Quite jealous of the well documented training reports that other clubs have on bigfooty while we are left in the dust.

We are a small enough club as it is. The more access and exposure we can to get the better.
