I would only want to trade macca for a good deal like a first rounder or a second rounder and a decent player.
I dont want to trade macca for trading sake. I am also realistic and know we aint going to get an awesome deal for him.
I think he would be suited at Freo or Geelong.

For about 3 years the media has reported that McLeod has suffered degeneration of the cartilege in the knee. This is severaly debilitating and it can't be treated. A similar condition forced Brett Chalmers into early retirement ... so it may be that Andy's mind is writing cheques his body can't cash. If that's the case it's got to be difficult physically and mentally for him.

Injury doesn't explain his poor attitude on & off the field. How can he be disinterested on a HBF 1 minute, then sprinting to tackle Gerhig the next. IMO, his issues are more mental than physical.

Don't watch closely enough to gauge his attitude, and don't know him off the field, so I'll take your assessment on that. Bottom line is tho, if people are thinking of trading him, a bung knee and crap attitude - as well as a $500K+ a year contract - are going to limit what you can reasonably expect for him. In the word of The Boss, Glory days, yeah they'll pass you by, glory days in the wink of a young girl's eye ...

You are saying that anyone who disagrees with you and wants to trade McLeod is engaging in malicious dribble whilst your view is based on respect which is the core of succesful clubs.

McLeod has been average for more than two years for the money he's paid and the ability he has.

Still not sure we should trade him (sentiment or respect call it what you will) but I can certainly see why some would be calling for it.

That's just the harsh reality of it, and no it isn't vey nice, but perhaps the hard decisions need to be made.
I am not disputing McLeod's poor form but the fact that he has played more great games than poor ones and in my mind he is not a player I would like to see traded. I am not sure why he is the subject of so much talk. I don't agree that last year was a bad one for him. You don't have to agree Chief. I am just offering my opinion same as you are.

A couple of years down the track now.
I'm glad we don't have any say in these things, as there wouldnt be any decent players left:p

Just for interest, how would you feel if Andrew McLeod was traded to Carlton for pick 1 (Gibbs)?

At the end of a disappointing 2004 season, McLeod was living in Hewitt’s West Lakes mansion, estranged from Rachael and the couple’s two young children, Connor and Madison.

In the summer of 2004-05 he was frequently spotted in Hewitt’s Ferrari, with the pair A-list guests at elite sporting events and McLeod Hewitt’s guest at the 2005 Australian Open.

McLeod admits that not only had he lost the hunger for football but also that his life was turning into a soap opera. "I was lost," he said this week. "They were dark days. It certainly changed me as a person and helped me grow as a person.

...

"I’m one of those players who needs new challenges all the time," explained McLeod.

"I didn’t doubt myself playing-wise or ability-wise, but there was this little voice in my head asking whether it was all worth the effort. I wasn’t playing well enough to warrant any enjoyment, I know I wasn’t playing top-notch football."

Not many on this thread were wrong given the circumstances at the time. The man himself retrospectively admits it.

No argument at all,
Just an "ox is slow" type bump.
Did you re-read the thread before posting? interesting read.
PS; Neil Craig >>>>>>>>>>>> Jenny Craig!!

Hahah, I did.

Was also wrong on my 'Wells > Magic Beans' call.

Not just you, most.

Memorable WW call on NC.:D :D
And JohnK's call on NC coaching Macca was impressive:thumbsu:

Thanks for the history lesson...and the threads made interesting re-reading. I think the committee/coach made some wise decisions on many of the players mentioned in this thread.
Why trade a superstar for a maybe star?? No way would I do a trade of McLeod for Pick 1. he deserves to play out his days in 1 club.

Watch for this thread to appear in Monday's Advertiser. :p

Let's go back to basics.

Will the retention of Macca help or hinder Adelaide's 2005 campaign?

As an onfield player, does he have a role to play assisting players like Johncock to move onto the next stage?

Should the club drop him because he has ceased winning matches off his own boot?

Is he a part of Adelaide's future or a part of Adelaide's past?

When Blight dropped A.Jarman, I thought Adelaide was doomed and I was wrong.

D. Jarman, as a fading star, became a part of Adelaide's future at that time.

Blight got it right with that sacking and AFC got it right with D.Jarman's signing.

It's a courageous call now to cull Macca. Is he an A.Jarman or a D. Jarman?

Remember too that D Jarman was a quiet non-leader like Macca who had immense respect from his colleagues.

Hindsight can answer these questions...

Help

Oh hell yes

Apparently he hasnt stopped.

Both.

We made the right decision. I always think clubs should be hesitant to cast away their champions, because it has an effect beyond the on field success of the next year. Ill be happy seeing Macca at the 10 year celebrations of the 97 premiership.

I must have just missed this thread . I posted similar thoughts in my ''Whats Andrew McLeods Problem'' I felt he wasnt motivated in 2004 and felt he was either injured, or still lost about ''losing '' the Brownlow or other issues. I am also glad to be called wrong and hereby declare Luke Jericho a superstar of the AFC*

McLeod is a STAR ! 3rd leading stats getter in the crows 1st team. what is wrong with that ? Trade him at your own peril. Now don't be silly

I fail to see the merit of digging up threads that are 2 years old and confusing casual readers like the one above, who don't realize that the thread is plain history.

Comments are made at a point in time, on the circumstances that exist at that point in time. Macca would be the first to admit that his form was very very ordinary back then and he wasn't earning his fat pay packet.

His life and his form have both undergone significant changes since then, so naturally opinions have changed dramatically since then.

A waste of everybody's time really.
