"Landing some more elements to the midfield is a continuous challenge for Richmond, where Monique Conti is still required to be the star. Yet to be publicly linked to any major trade movements, there is every chance the Tigers are going to prepare to move on some fringe players to add to their draft hand, and hit what will be a generational draft hard to build out a long-term list".

Not in the article but it also looks like Georgia Gall is off the table. Melbourne are keen to move on Mithen and a first round pick to grab Gold Coast's pick no. 2. Gold Coast move down the draft order and still take touted #1 draftee Havana Harris (academy) with a later end of round pick.

would it hurt us to try this ?

we don't even do it in the mens, which i'm fine with, but in the womens the skill gap isn't as large so i don't see why not

Staggered with our failure to step into this space.

Look at the top teams and you will see Irish players have a huge impact.

Nth - Wall, O'Shea
Bris - O'Dwyer, Dunne
Haw - Gilroy, McDonagh
Adel - Kelly
Freo - McCarthy, Tighe, Lally

We aren't talking fringe here. Quality players.

You are very quiet Stan Judkins. How does the 2024 draft pool look? Anything to get excited about at pick #12?

yeah agree with all of this toenail63
we shouldn't trade for Paige Scott, not what we need to be honest, Yassir does what she does but better
Melbourne have struck gold again if they trade Mithen and their 1st pick for GCS's pick 2

Havana Harris to GCS for say Dees pick 10 will be the steal of the draft (will go top 2)
the players we'd like will go too high for our pick 12, Centra, Rasheed, Painter, Howley, Fish, Field and Grieves

Some talent there. Also a lot talent on your top player list.

Of the players I really liked from the Nats, and would be happy to land at Tigerland with our first pick, I’ve got 12 players from your list that I thought really stood out to me, PS: I would also add Mia Salisbury (QLD bias showing), these were Ash Centra, Havanna Harris, Zippy Fish, Sarah Howley, India Rasheed, Lucinda Painter, Molly O'Hehir, Sierra Grieves, Sophie Mackay, Sienna Tallariti, Tara Harrington, Mia Salisbury and Mackenzie Williams. Actually Harrington didn’t play but I think she would be in this discussion.

Some of the others not on your list that also caught the eye, and keen for you’re analysis are Grace Belloni, Holly Ridewood, Sarah Poustie, Georgie Brisbane, all Victorians, and also Lily Paterson (WA) and Grace Martin (SA).

yeah the 12 players you've listed toenail63, all should go in the 1st round
Havanna Harris and Tara Harrington should cost GCS 2 X 1st Rd picks

the others you've listed i don't know too much about as i missed the last 1/3rd of the U/18's and the U/18 nationals
but the draft this year goes deep and evens out after the top 7-8 or so players

one that i'm keen on if she's at our pick is
Molly O’Hehir (South Fremantle/Western Australia)
24/05/2006 | 176cm | Tall Utility

Her athleticism and competitiveness stand out as key traits
but she's got to get to pick 12 which is 50/50 ATM

Yep 100% real. Very cool name. Lucky her parents didn't name her Trish.
Zipporah "Zippy" Fish is her full name and she's an absolute jet of a player
she's got some serious speed and agility, not many can touch her
gets plenty of the ball and uses it very well

Yes the draft is deep and even after our first pick there will be some very good players on the board, would even be worth trying to move up in the second round, especially with a good mix of positional players if we want to target a tall forward with our second.

Molly O'Hehir is so versatile, a good height but also great at ground level, plays like a mid, can play her anywhere.

If Fish is gone by West Coast's first pick, as is likely, then do they pick Molly or do they say grab someone like Sarah Howley to partner with Ella Roberts in their midfield. That would be pretty enticing for them. If they don't pick Molly and seeing that Freo don't have a pick until the next pick after ours then we could pounce, if she is still there.

Looking like the Suns with the later pick from Melbourne's raid on pick 2, and pick form Bohanna going to Carlton will end up with enough later picks to get all the three academy girls in Harris, Harrington and Salisbury. At least that's the plan.

yes toenail63, that's exactly why I'd love to get Molly O'Hehir, at 179cm great size too

Zippy will be gone before WC pick 6, Molly will be around that mark (hoping she slides to our pick due to some good KPP)

GCS will have no trouble getting Harris, Harrington and Salisbury, if they do the deals with Melbourne and Carlton

at an early guess, based on best available talent, it should go something like this
1: Ash Centra
2: Havana Harris
3: India Rasheed
4: Zippy Fish
5: Molly O'Hehir
6: Lucia Painter
7: Sara Howley
8: Sierra Grieves
9: Sophie McKay
10: Poppy Scholz

but as usual there could be some bolters ie there's a few KPP players that are rated highly

It feels like we are asleep at the wheel on the Irish player opportunities. Sheahan needs to say what, if anything, we have done in this space if she wants any credibility in her role. That list is so damning to us. We would be a better team with any of those on our list.

To be fair, our list is getting better, but just not at the same pace as a lot of other Clubs it seems.

I know Ferg is not a great kicking and hand ball coach, and, maybe he is still holding on to an old conversation we had about AFL players not getting specific skill coached in kicking and handball because the margins of benefit are just not there.

It's certainly very different in AFLW and I'm surprised we are not better by foot with Nathan Chapman of Pro-kick there as an Asst Coach.

Pretty handy top 10.

I'll have a crack at it, Essendon trade into draft take St Kilda pick, and Melbourne trade into pick 2 & take Fish, GWS bid on Havana Harris & Suns give up late first rounder.

1.COLLINGWOOD: Ash Centra
2.MELBOURNE: Zippy Fish
3.GOLD COAST: Havana Harris
4.GWS GIANTS: Sarah Howley
5.SYDNEY SWANS: India Rasheed
6.CARLTON: Sophie Mackay
7.WEST COAST: Sierra Grieves
8.WESTERN BULLDOGS: Lucia Painter
9.ESSENDON: Charlotte Riggs
10.GEELONG: Sienna Tallariti

Still leaves on the board for us at 12 one of Molly O’Hehir, Poppy Scholz, Emma Macdonald, Ellie Symonds, Mackenzie Williams, Grace Belloni, Georgie Brisbane & Sarah Poustie.

With the Irish girls kicking is developed from an early age and the adjustment when moving to AFLW often looks ugly, think Cora Staunton, but effective, players coming through uninterrupted from Auskick in future years will also have developed kicking in their formative years and we will see noticeably improved kicking across the league.

it’s also pertinent that Carlton with their 2 x Irish signings, has undertaken a comprehensive review of their women’s department recently and are now attacking this space. I hope that now that with two or three of the latest expansion teams going past us that as a club we undertake a similar review, not because we are terrible like Carlton, but because similar to the mens’ in 2016, it helped us.

"A MULTI-CLUB AFLW mega deal has remarkably been revived in a much changed format, with Lily Mithen set to get to Gold Coast as part of a six-team trade featuring 16 different pick swaps.
The deal includes Melbourne, Gold Coast, Collingwood, Adelaide, Richmond and Geelong, though Mithen is the only player involved, with the clubs all set to exchange a variation of first and second-round picks."

"Collingwood will secure extra second-round picks, Adelaide and Richmond will both shift up the draft order, while Geelong will land an extra first-round selection as part of the deal."

i wonder if we'll look at Grace Egan's younger sister with our later picks?

Holly Egan
176cm
Utility
DRAFT RANGE: 30-50
SUMMARY:
Holly Egan is an athletic and smart utility who has the capacity to play various roles. Captaining the Murray Bushrangers in 2024, Egan stepped up for Vic Country at the national carnival and showed she can match it with the best players in the country. She is likely a mid-draft player with a strong foundational base, but room to improve and grow for the future. However being athletic often sees a club pounce earlier, so it would not be surprise to see her go higher than predicted.

i wonder if this trade deal goes thru, how far up the order we'll move up?

pick 8-9?
seems like the only way it makes it worth it for us?
Pick 9, we would move up in first round and down in second round to Adelaides, a drop of 4 places. Must have someone we are targeting ;)

which 2024 draftees follow our club

Vic Metro co-captain Sienna Tallariti headlining that group with fellow captains Holly Egan – sister of current Tiger Grace – and Holly Ridewood all fans of Punt Road. Eastern athletic talls Grace Baba and Evie Parker support the Tigers, as does Richmond NGA Jemmika Douglas and Rookie Me Central Medallist Jemma Reynolds.

Holly Egan

Holly plays a lot different to Grace, slighter build which may make her tackling less effective at AFLW, she is quite lively though and a better decision maker then Grace, even in traffic is composed, also a better kick.

With the draft being this deep she is in the range that would be a late pick, if she gets picked.

Full details of the six-club, one-player, 16-pick AFLW trade that has been lodged with the League

A six-club AFLW trade is back on, but without Hawthorn involved. Lily Mithen is set to move to Gold Coast, while 16 picks will swap hands. Clubs began renegotiating without Hawthorn last night, with Tayla Harris now a realistic chance to return to Melbourne.
