I think the real area which we aren't trying to exploit and that afl clubs in general aren't trying to exploit enough is going hard at guys coming off their first contract. If they look to have the goods giving them a good contract early would hopefully get a lot more guys nominating to come our way. The other aspect to this is that even if you don't get them to your club by shaking the tree it forces other clubs to pay them more thus leaving them with less room in regards to free agents. If you look at building a successful list you really only need 2 best 22 players from each draft / trade period and to then pick up a free agent who's best 22 every second season.

The other area in which i think afl clubs in general aren't doing at a world best level is in managing the salary cap. Going forward i think realistically we could work on an average of there being an increase in TPP of 7-8% a year and look at structuring players deals accordingly. If you pay players a % of your total cap it can work both in the clubs and the players favour as generally the cap will increase by more than expected and secondly if there is a years where it doesn't increase by as much as expected you are covered both ways. Looking at generic contract numbers of 400k or 450k or 500k or 800k a year makes things a lot more difficult to balance in the future as opposed to 4%, 4.5%, 5%, 8% etc. etc.

As a club we need to stop being the good guy, community focussed, lay down at the trade table bitches that we have become and get back to being leaders in strategic innovation and professionalism as we once were.
All well and good, but player agents always push for more year on year especially when there is growth to be had with a particular player as he matures. This is generally apparent with the third contract eg, 21/22 - 25/26 when a player is said to be approaching their prime. It's a stab in the dark but a risk because you might be stuck with a player who didn't come on who you are paying more for in their 3rd, 4th or 5th year (depending on the deal). Strip down the nuts and bolts and really we are just paying players more to play in WA.

We need to be able to sell more than that which may require the club to think outside the box a little. I know some clubs we have dealt with try to screw a player price down so Vic clubs aren't paying too much for their players (or at least try not to).

Yes
20km or more? Now ur full of it.

Basketball is very taxing on body. Especially on knees worse than afl.

But we r talking about why flying itself is detrimental. The science of it.

For example if u play on concrete than grass, ur knees will suffer more due to less give and therefore higher dynamic load through joints. See that's science.

Now flying is more detrimental because....
flying doesnt hurt your knees . if you walked to Melbourne you would have sore knees

I swear you dont actually read anyone elses posts.

Myself and others have posted several facts contradicting you and you just cherry pick them and reply to snippets.

Wate of time talking to you - i may as well engage a ham sandwich in debate.

Depending on the league the teams might be weighted slightly more to the west, not massively and not nearly to the extent of the AFL. They fly significantly more than AFL sides but the east coast sides fly as much, or almost as much, as the west coast sides.
So, they all fly a lot. Don't see them falling over with shortened careers due to flying.

Shorter than what? Who knows how long their careers would last if every team was based in New York and there was no travel involved?

Listened to some SEN on the way home, they discussed the Petrie situation a bit.

They thought he was cooked too, although they pointed out everyone thought Stevie J was cooked this time last year and he turned it around with a change of scenery.

They said we'd approached Jesse White but he didn't want to leave Collingwood, which I hadn't heard.

They also asked who's recruited someone to play that forward ruck role and have it work out, and couldn't think of anyone. I was yelling "Leigh Brown" at them. I thought afterwards David Hale was another example.

Claremont. New England Patriots.

They also fly a lot of north / south , south / north routes.

San Diego to Seattle and Tampa to NY so time zones are not an issue.

All NFL teams fly sort of equally and the Super Bowel for the most part is in neutral territory.

Eagles offered Brown the contract as insurance for Brown should he not get picked up in free agency, Browns first choice would be back in Melbourne .
WCE are being considerate and loyal.
why wouldn't we just focus on building a competitive team?

no point hanging onto dead wood.

insurance for exploring emac movement sounds more logical and professional to me, with all due respect.
